I think they should try the Military Two Step on SCD.
It is a truly fantastic dance and the choreographers could jazz it up in an entertaining way.

"Heel
Toe
One Two Three" etc...

Sheer class.

Now that really is an inspired 'Come Dancing' suggestion. Proper formation dance with ladies in 50s'/60s style dresses with layers of tuile (sp?), hair and make up in keeping. Men with slicked back hair... and partings!

I so remember that from Come Dancing ...!

"and her mother sewed every sequin on by hand ! "

Formation military two step is absolutely inspired

I suggested a few years ago that they should have a group old time (classical sequence) dance each week... the judges could place them like a real competition. Maybe now is the time to add a new element to the show.

All the men could be in kilts.
Kenny would shine.

If they had done that Brian Capron would probably have stayed in seeing as he did a tour last year as the narrator in "Rocky Horror"

they have enough problems doing the standard dances without branching into old time

At my school we did Scottish dancing (in Wales not Scotland ) with the taller/larger girls wearing kilts and shirts and the ladylike girls in white dresses with a bit of tartan over their shoulders

Who else other than Kenny would shine in a kilt? Doesn't have to be a Scot - or male

I LOVED Old Time on Come Dancing, especially when two 17 year olds did it, and they looked so smart and respectful and from another era even back then.

I found the dances very enjoyable to watch, and definitely at least one Old Time dance per series added to the schedules instead of the Salsa and Mambo etc. would suit me down to the ground!

At my Primary School in the East End of London, we did English Country Dancing which I absolutely loved, it was probably much the same thing. Our teacher had special records she played on the speakers and we used the Assembly Hall, it was brill, and miles better than doing Apparatus, which I hated!

Oooh - I'd love that! a) I'd be up dancing with them as I know it really well and (b) I'd be studying them really closely to ensure they were doing it right!!!

'Let's do the time warp again. it's just a jump to the left. And then a step to your right. Place your hands on your hips, and bring your knees in t-i-i-ght ...'

All I know of the Military Two Step is a Joyce Grenfell sketch.*

*Because I watched a programme about her on BBC3, not because I was around when she first did it, you understand.

When the last series ended we had a thread about what we'd like to see in future ones..I think a few of us said Old Time, plus some of the dances featured in SDF such as the Lindy Hop.

Me not old enough either BUT I did see "Re-Joyce" in which Maureen Lipman played Ms Grenfell and there's a song sketch she does in there "Stately as two galleons we sail across the floor".

Inclusion of such a dance would be a welcome nostalgic nod to the original Come Dancing.

This is a really good idea. Grassroots amateur dancers from John O'Groats to Lands End will relate to a sequence dance on SCD. It is a great social icebreaker and when done well looks good. Perhaps near Christmas time a sequence dance including SCD candidates past and present? Better than a themeless group dance with Dom monkeying about.

One time in a Huddersfield dance studio I saw a gavotte performed. The young people loved it.
