Do you use protection spray?


I read an interview with the inventor of GHD's and they said that putting heat on your hair without using a protector its basically like putting an iron on your face.

I've had every straightener in the book and none of them were as good as the Ghd's, I got them a couple of xmas's ago and now I really wouldn't be without them. I use Tresemme heat defense with them also.

I would reccomend GHD's as well, definitely. most of the time when you buy the GHD's (dependant on website, admittedly) they usually give you a heat protective mat and hair protector spray for free.

I will say though that I'm on my 3rd pair of GHD's in about 5 years. I'm not sure why they just all of a sudden stop working (my last pair while i was getting ready for a night out... I have curly, almost frizzy hair so wasn't the best situation!) BUT I have never found any other straightners that do the job as well as GHD's do!!

As with anything electrical I just take it that they have a certain shelf life, like an iron or a hairdryer and need to be replaced after a period of time.

Definetly GHDs. I have thick wavy hair and have tried so many of my friends and they are useless!!

I had my orginal GHDs for 2 years, and that was basicaly using them every 2nd day at least, so i would say they last well!! I bought a new pair, but my friends lost its heat after a year and a half and she sent them back and they replaced them with no questions!!

So without a doubt, GHDs!!!

I don't really rate GHD's at all. I have hair that although it is thick it holds a style. It is naturally curly/wavy. (Except when it gets wet and i look like sideshow bob) Normally when i straighten my hair with my Babyliss Pro straighteners my hair is perfectly straight for 2 days, providing i don't tie it back or it rains. The few times i have used GHD's i have had to straighten it again the next day.

i recently got nicky clarke colour protection hair straighteners and for me they are the best ones i have ever used
my hair is thick, curly and dyed(alot!) they make my hair feel really nice and it stays straight for ages

I'm 14 and 2 xmas' ago i really wanted GHDs and got some, i realise now that i only wanted them because "everyone else had them", my t3s were fine then. My GHDs broke 4 months later and my hair was in such a bad condtition seriosly. So last xmas i got FHIs they go 2 degrees higher than GHDs and are soooooo much better, they have special plates that dont burn your hair asmuch and my hair actually feels nicer after using them x

I've had my GHDs for 18 months and they've just given up the ghost (partly from me dropping them :/)
I used them near enough everyday, infact sometimes twice or 3 times a day and never had a problem!

I'm not really a fan of GHDs. I don't like that they only go to 210 degrees, cos that's not really suitable for everyone's hair. I use a Mark Hill straightener which I got in Boots and I adore it. They're quite pricey but I got it when it was half price, so about €70. The temperature is adjustable which I find brilliant cos I've quite thick, unruly hair and I use the top heat, 220 degrees, and my friend who has very thin hair used it at about 170 degrees and thought it was brilliant. I've had about 5 different straighteners and these are the only ones I'd recommend, they're brilliant!

GHDs go up to 230

I've got a "Andrew Collinge 230 Digital Ceramic Straightener" which works wonders on my hair (I have really thick, curly hair). They go up to 230, and my hairs always shiny after I've used them.

What's more, you can get them in argos for a lovely £19.59. Beats spending £80+ or whatever it is on decent GHDs.

I have the worst thick unruly frizzy hair and have tried and tested every pair of straightners under the sun.

The only ones that I have found to work are ghd's. These glide through my hair like hot butter leaving my hair soft and silky and even after getting caught in the rain my hair still manages to stay straight.
Expensive but well worth the money...I saved up for mine.

I wouldn't recommend using a serum before straightning with any kind of irons as this is like cooking your hair in hot oil. A good heat protection spray (I use the ghd one) should be enough with a little serum run through afterwards.

I got ones the other day called VISIQ from Argos. they're £7.79 but they're wicked. my hair is really straight. i've straightened my hair with GHD's and with other leading brands but these ones are the best.

Probably true but just using heat protector on it's own can only do so much in the long term. If someone is using heat on their hair every day. You need to be doing deep conditioning treatments at least once a week (I would do it twice a week if I was using that much heat). Because the heat will eventually weaken the hair strand over time and the hair will just get dry, become brittle and will break. You need to strengthen the hair to be able to withstand all of that trauma, and the only way you can do that is by deep conditioning it.
