Does it make any sense to buy an LCD/Plasma TV in the USA and ship it to the UK?

Power? Format: NTSC/PAL? Shipping costs?

Would I save any money?

I am considering a 35" - 40" TV.

Very high shipping costs even by sea, import duty and vat and little chance of warranty support from the UK arm of a manufacturer.
All that aside the internal tuners will be useless and power conversion would be required, all in all better to put some effort into shopping around the UK high street and online retailers.

Not to mention no Teletext, no NICAM, and no Freeview tuner.

And no SCART sockets.

Get the feeling this thread was summed up by post 2?

Personally your asking for trouble buy an item such as a TV off Ebay & probably Amazon as well.

Some of the best deals going are by online retailers.
Shop around & you will still get a better deal than Ebay.
