Who will join me in boycotting negative threads like 'Anton du Beke - what do you see in him' and 'I'm so disliking Kelly Brook'?

I've hardly posted anything this year because of the negativity. This forum used to be such fun. I'm just sitting in the corner sadly writing limericks and making the occasional frock comment.

I started doing this a couple of weeks ago as they don't add anything to my enjoyment of the forum .

The opposite in fact

Although it's difficult, I'm a believer in "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"- so I don't really read negative sounding threads.

So am I.

Well, except I can't even write much in the way of limericks.

I'm a believer in allowing people to think what they want, even if I don't agree with it.

I for one love your limericks! Keep 'em coming.

Actually, I must confess I don't have a problem with threads that are critical as long as it feels they are critical of the dancing, or even the dancers, as long as it is to do with the dancing.

But your limericks and frock comments are just as valid as owt else to be found here on these threads, and your postivity is much welcome here these days, my dear.

For some light relief, browse the alesha and matt threads. Always pleasant.....negative comments ignored!

I'll join you!

As someone else said its okay if they are commenting on the dancing but much of what is negative this year is personal so *waves boycott placard* count me in!

That's the only one I really read at the mo (and contribute badly on) as can't be arsed with all the vitriol.....I'm not as into SCD this year anyway as previous years! Mind you, it's still better here than the Bb forums! So thanks for the great thread Mike. More and more people are reading it, as it gets longer. Wish the beeb would read it and get the hint!

Each reader, after reading a thread can offer a mark: +10 for the best, -10 for the worst. That's for the thread as a whole, not individual postings. So the score for any thread regardless of readership will be displayed next to the thread title -- average score zero. We shall know if Craig has been round, because the scores will dip markedly.

New readers can then save time and avoid unpleasantness by going where other readers recommend -- a kind of Egon Ronay Guide to Threads, should not be difficult for the site software.

This is a discussion forum.

Since we are all well aware of a huge popularity/public perception influence as far as the voting is concerned then it is perfectly right we discuss our likes and dislikes. It's a big part of what affects the show, like it or not.

I really don't like the 'ooo, let's just say nice, fluffy things vibe' because it just makes this a waste of space as forum if that is all that's allowed.

People occassionally do step over the line and if you think that, hit the Alert button and let the mods do their job.

Personally I think it just shows how popular the format is when it can evoke such discussion and passion in people.

EDIT: And to single out the 'Anton du Beke - what do you see in him' thread is silly to me. If you actually looked at it the OP basically said 'I don't like Anton and I'm genuinely interested in what other people see if him'. Blimey, if you can't even be negative in the nicest way possible we might as well pack up shop!

The forum mods did try a Thread Rating scheme some time ago. And it was a huge flop.

Ah yes, the star rating system. I remember everyone voting for 5 starts for their home thread, and trolls coming along and giving them 1 star. It was a bit pointless!

And this is what I had to say about it.

I think that there is room for all kinds of threads here, the light hearted, the rants and even the negative stuff. As claire2281 says, it's a discussion forum (not a fanzine).

Most of the time it's clear from the titles what the tone of the thread will be, so surely we just have to pick the ones that interest us.

I remember a couple of years ago some of us wanted this forum to be a happy place, and then found that this caused all sorts of bad feeling, and actually had the opposite effect. So these days I tend to have the attitude that so long as it doesn't get personal towards other FMs, who cares what other people write, it's just another person's opinion.

Hear hear. Free speech etc and healthy exchange of views - that's what this forum needs, not endless "Threads of Appreciation":yawn:

I don't agree that this is a negative thread. Some of us can make positive steps to think before posting unnecessarily venomous attacks. Anger and disagreement can be aired in an inoffensive way. We needn't be all 'happy fluffy sickly luvvie' all the time. There is such a thing as a happy medium.

I'm with you kitty.

Do people have nothing better to do than to go on and on about how lovely, how handsome, oh he makes my knees weak etc.,

What we need is more debate, controversy and gutsy FM's......
