New Blood for SCD
HappyDancer

Anyone out there ever heard of Warren & Kristi Boyce?

In my humble opinion they are THE great hope for British ballroom dancing for the next few years... so come on BBC, get them on SCD to do a cabaret performance.

see them at

They're wonderful. We have a lot of great ballroom pros, but they are certainly our future. Every year at the UK Open in Bournemouth, the roof almost comes off with all of the support for them!

Are they not amateur though? The BBC would only have professional dancers on, wouldn't they?

The word "amateur" is very misleading in dance and actually still describes dancers of an incredibly high standard. The very top amateur couples in the world (and Warren and Kristi fall into this group) are actually equal in standard to the top 12 professionals in the world. (Some higher than that, some lower)

They are incredible dancers and I would definitely love to see them perform, although as we have had quite a lot of ballroom recently, I'd actually prefer to see some amazing latin performances.

I realise they are of an incredibly high standard. I have seen them dance for the past three years at Bournemouth, and they are wonderful. I was just questioning whether there is a reason why the BBC would only use professional dancers.

I know one of the couples currently on the show said that they would not have been able to compete on the show if they were still amateur.

Amateur status has strict rules, one of which is regarding demonstrating and the other is payment for dancing

Amateur does not reflect on the dancing skills many of the 'top' amateurs can be of a better standard than some professionals

Oh sorry, didn't mean to sound patronising - I didn't know about your dance knowledge and misinterpreted what you meant! I just wrote about the standard of amateurs as some people who don't follow dancesport may not be aware of how great they are, as I think the word 'amateur' is very misleading

That's OK. I didn' t think you were being patronising at all. I totally agree with you, and bendymixer, that many of the amateurs are of an equal or higher standard than many of the professional status dancers. I love watching them dance whenever I can, and the reception they get at Bournemouth is fantastic. I think they are quite local to there aren't they, so obviously have a lot of local fans too!

I assume it would be against the rules for them to appear on SCD then, although I have seen them do a demonstration alongside a professional latin couple.

Yes I think Warren grew up in Bournemouth and they still help to teach at a ballroom school based there at selected times of the year. Correct me if I'm wrong though everybody, as I'm not completely sure of this...

I think the OP was just talking about them doing a demo on the results show, rather than actually taking part...

I saw them do a demo last year at one of our uni competitions (can't for the life of me remember which (possibly Bath)) and they were incredible. I would love to see them do a demo on the results show or something like that.

You can see Warren and Kristi Boyce giving a cabaret/demo at a wonderful Christmas Dance at the King's Hall, Stoke on Trent, on 21 December. The music is by Blackpool's fabulous Empress Orchestra who play for the big competitions at the Winter Gardens - - what a difference if they used that band and music for S.C.D. !! If you can't dance there is a special price for spectators in the gallery of this top-class venue.

Dancin' Doc”

Hi Dancin Doc,
Great you mentioned that event... cus we've got tickets and SOOOOOOOOO looking forward to it.

Back to the original thread, yes, I'd like to see W&K do a demo (as they are allowed to under EADA rules) and then maybe be resident on the programme after they turn pro, which I'm sure can't be too far away.

You might feel out of place - they tell me that kilts are the latest ballroom fashion!
