Help! I've done something stupid.
My mum bought me an LCD widescreen tv 4 months ago. Last night in the middle of an argument about how much my partner watches tv I got angry and threw the remote at the TV. It hit the screen and didn't seem to **** the TV at all until about 10 mins later when the whole screen went weird and now it's still weird.
Is this possible to fix? How much do you think it will cost? |

has it cracked?
does it look all watery? if so it will cost the price of the TV to repair, just buy a new one. |

It's got a huge smash mark (only when you turn it on, looks fine when it's off) and then 80% of the screen is lsome weird multi coloured hell that kinda related to whats on the tv at the time. The top 2 inches are fine though.
A new one? Really? It was only £400 but can't afford another at the mo. Could maybe spend £200 on fixing but if it's gonna be more than that I might as well bin it. |

Sounds like you've busted the LCD panel I'm afraid - the only repair would be to replace the entire panel, which would cost as much (or more) than a new TV.
Have you got house insurance with accidental damage? You could always say that you bashed it with the handle of the vacuum cleaner or something? Not that I condone domestic violence, but next time, throw the remote at your partner instead of the TV

Unfortunatly I don't.
I rang up the place I bought it from to see if there was some sort of insurence on it. My mum normally gets insurence on everything because we have such bad luck with everything. But since I used her card online I didn't think. I've only lived away from home 4 months and I haven't bought stuff like insurence yet, the bills are so much as is

looks like you will have to go without TV for a while, and next time look at getting a TV with a tougher screen or insurance.

There is plenty more TVs in the house. But yeah, I don't think it's a case of getting insurance. It's a case of not being such a dick :P |

Yes, the screen is smashed, and would cost more than the TV did to replace - as for insurance I don't see why it should cover deliberate stupidity? - you smashed it yourself, I don't see why insurance should cover that anyway!.
