I'm looking for lcd for bedroom and came across one in currys an LG 22" LS4D with freeview for a 'reduced' price of £299. The contrast ratio at 3000:1 looked good but brightness only 300 (got from net as not available in shop).

It looked nice and picture seemed fair until I switched channel to sport where it occaisionally blocked and froze. As this was in shop it may have just been due to poor signal strength.

Does anyone have any views/reviews on this lcd? I have seen various scare stories on Phillips and LG on forums, but also good reviews as well.

Any comments/recommendations (on tv's) welcome

Ian

If I spend more than £300 for a bedroom tv I'll end up having a certain appendage removed (by her indoors) and be able to hit some high notes at kareoke.

I just want something that has reasonable picture and isn't going to conk out. So no more than £300.

It could be smaller than the 22" its just I thought price and freeview sounded good until the freezing started on sport channel. I was just wondering if anyone had one or had experience of one, and what LG tuners are like?

Cheers

well with the discussion ongoing in this link

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=687478

you shouldnt have any freezing with an aerial in a biscuit tin..............

however looking at some mags the philips 15pf512 wins the 15 to 27 inch categorgy ( what hi-fi) this month

is it too small?

should you buy inbuilt digital tuner and pay a premium or pay £20 for a box

the viewsonic n2060 w comes in at £300 and gets 4 out of 5

and the DMtech lm17db does well at £265

best to see in a shop

Not a 'bit', generally a 'lot' - Philips have a terrible reputation for poor reliability and poor service.

It shows you a glossy cover and snippets but no real info. Will have to browse in Newsagents as well as net

It actually looks like it covers quite a lot on digital tv and recorders so might be worth investing in. Cheers Niall.

Have had word that although Phillips may be iffy on reliability the LG is supposed to be a good tv so may take the plunge - after reading mag of course.

I would never buy anything from Phillips after buying a separate HIFI radio of them some years back.
It was Huge and looked very impressive, however when using it even with an external Ariel it would only receive half the station I could get on my portable radio.
I decided to take a look inside, there was next to nothing thier
just a tiny circuit board and a huge transformer it was 90% space.

when I read all the reviews I couldnt believe that the smaller tellys at your price range didnt have in built digital tuners. Then I saw some other articles which I have posted showing that DVB-2T is coming along so if it means a cheaper telly and you just have to change your box every so often then it still works out cheaper for you

I'm just opposite Pontop Pike (3 miles as crow flies) so even with downgrade of signal I should still get reception (no trees in way). I shall just have to try to get a tv with scart, hdmi, and whatever else ports to ensure I can connect to future decoder boxes.

I really think the government should organise a proper freesat service and auction space off to tv companies once satellite is up. It would get out techys something to work on without relying on bribing Saudi princes.

It sounds like the tv makers know something we don't doesn't it? Sorry I've been watching too many conspiracy things on tv.
