However, the point about the "in love" face is a good one. I agree it doesn't seem likely that Kelly and Brendan would choose "Delilah", but equally "in love" face doesn't go at all!
Maybe he *does* have "Falling".

The meaning behind the song Delilah is quite dark.
Kelly and Brendan have done the dramatic tango and Paso for the last two dances....another dramatic song choice...?
And Gethin and Camilla get the softer fallin' in and out of love song.

I can hear it now. It's one of the things I think of now when they put up the song choices and one of the female singers is really sounding bad. It's so off putting.

They are dancing to Delilah! You could very faintly hear it in the background on last nights ITT training clips!

Seriously?! Kelly and Brendan dancing to Tom Jones? See, I can imagine them doing it. So happy it's not Gethin and Camilla - goes off to do little happy dance!

well, unless my ears are deceiving me! Although, they could be, I really dislike Tom Jones!
I should have added, 'I'm pretty certain' to my previous post! (I wouldn't want to upset anyone by getting it wrong!)

So now we think:

Falling – Alicia Keys - Gethin and Camilla
Higher – Gloria Estefan
When a Man loves a Woman – Michael Bolton - Matt and Flavia
Peanut Vendor – Anita O'Day
Pastime Paradise – Ray Barretto
Flower of Scotland - Lulu - Kenny and Ola
Ran Kan Kan – Tito Puente
Delilah – Tom Jones - Kelly and Brendan
Gotta Be Startin' Something – Michael Jackson - Alesha and Matthew

Any others?

I'm quite keen on Matt using the MJ song actually - I mean if you're going to be slightly experimental anywhere I think the salsa is definitely the place to do it.

I think the salsa more than any other dance allows you to be freer with the music. After all it isn't a 'proper' dance (if you know what I mean! No offence!) and so I don't think it ever suffers so greatly from being a bit inventive with the music. I've seen salsa done to so many different styles of song any I can't say I've ever really seen anything that didn't fit. As long as it is upbeat and fun, it should be fine.

I agree - and there ain't much better than early MJ, frankly

it's still not definite they are dancing to that though, who knows we may still be surprised...

Given the lyrics, I think Delilah is the perfect song for Kelly and Brendan!

I think its Brendan's subconscious saying how he feels about Kelly!

I think there are alot of Salsa dancers who would strongly disagree with you about it not being a 'proper' dance. Wanna be startin something all wrong for salsa and Im saddened Matt using it as in the rehersals he seems to be the only one putting authentic stuff in both antons and darrens look like they are going to be samba based

Think Brendan and Kelly will do ok if they get routine right as Delilah is the only natural VW phrase tune in that list - the music being half the battle

I can totally see what you mean but I think the salsa often isn't (rightly or wrongly) taken as seriously as the rest of the dances. Maybe because it's so widespread or the fact it's actually been turned in exercise tapes and whatnot but I do get that general feeling.

Honestly, I wouldn't put it in the show myself, but with the AT, AS and VW they need a fourth dance to even it up.

VW is one of the standard dances and is one of the ten formal competition dances the problem is that if you take the competition over 10 couples then you need the extra dances how many couples this year?? Is it 14 then will they need an extra dance??

I loathe AS too in the show - dont mind AT at all Salsa I hate to be performed as a jazzed up samba (something SCD here tends to do ) it does have a technique and tempo laid down for it but hardly ever performed correctly

I look at this and I'm gobsmacked.

Love the inclusion of salsa but do agree they could use better music

It's not just the music that is wrong but the dance on SCD they perform is more as a samba and it is not.

Looking at Matt and Alesha at least they are putting in some of the arm changes and close hold stuff which is essential in Salsa - but too often Samba steps put in Volt's etc which really are not part of it - great clip btw

I was thinking on similar lines, at least the tempo and timing is right in Delilah without having to mess around with it unlike the others.

Absolutely which is one of the reasons why I think it might be good to drop back to 12 couples.

I really like the AT and the AS (although I understand not a proper AS) is a dance I enjoy as it makes people see the ballroom can be a 'showy' as the Latin. It is generally an enjoyable dance.

I don't think the salsa brings very much to the show though that the other dances don't already do. As you say it isn't done properly.

I think what salsa brings to the show is familiarity - a lot more people will have encountered it/tried it than other dances. However, due to it not being as technique-based as other dances, it would probably be better earlier in the series.

A good number of these choices for salsa are 'traditional' music - surely a higher percentage than of the other dances! Yay!

Surely "When a man loves a woman" is in compound time, too, and Flower of Scotland also? Which is what you want for VW isn't it?

(At least, "When a man" how I hear it in my head is in compaound time)

I may well have missed something on the dancing side of course, but a fast 3 time (ie a fast waltz or something in compound time) is what I thought was required for VW.

Lulu actually did a great version of Flower of Scotland. She sang it on this album for the 2003 Rugby World Cup - http://www.amazon.co.uk/True-Colours.../dp/B0000AQVHP

..and sang it before a Scotland game during the 2003 World Cup. I guess they namechecked her as she was one of the more household names who have released it officially.
