This has probably been covered before but here goes anyway! My father in law has just got Freesat installed on a TV upstairs (satellite cable runs into that room where TV is). However he mostly uses TV in downstairs room (where there is no cable). Rather than try and extend cable to that TV I was wondering about purchasing a Digisender to transmit signals from one TV to another without cables. As I know very little about these can anyone tell me how good they are, what is the best one to recommend and can I install one without cable? His second TV has a scart connection which I believe is important in transmitting signals from one source to another. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

we have the one4all £50 set from Argos, and can say they work fairly well. They are affected by wireless routers/ cordless house phones etc as they run on the 2.4 Ghz frequency. I have to switch everything off (including unplugging the xbox360) to get an unaffected signal. I do also find that certain cars that go past during the evening also affect the signal the av sender transmits.

I would suggest not going for any of the cheap ones, as I did experiement with a cheap set and found they didnt transmit as well as these ones. They actually made the picture orange/red.

The transmitter needs to be plugged into the VIDEO scart port - this will mean you will be able to control the box from another room with the remote control, however you will have no control over volume control, if there is one on the box you are using (I have a humax 9200 with internal volume control - this cannot be used in the bedroom) The transmitter will also have an IR dongle type thing (cant think of the correct word for it) which just needs to be stuck in front of the box.

The receiver portion of the kit will plug into the scart socket on the rear of the tv, and sits wherever you want it to sit, however it will need to be accessible to allow channel changes etc.

hope this helps

i bought a cheapo set from Argos. wifi plays havoc with the signal, also when it wasn't doing that i still got 'rolling lines' on the picture. whatever you choose, make sure you've got the option to return it hassle free... it might work ok for you, give it a go
