DVD Player
PowerStorm
09-11-2007
Just bought a new DVD player to attach to an old portable CRT in the bedroom.

The TV has one scart socket, as does the Toshiba DVD player.

I'm looping this via Sony freeview box (which has 2 scart connections).

Initially I was using a scart socket on the DVD player which had about 6-8 pins on it. The DVD picture appeared, though, in black and white.

So I swapped this for another scart with all the pins active. Now, however, whenever I have the DVD scart connected, I lose the terrestrial picture - just have sound. Not a great issue, because I use the Freeview box, but I'm worried there's a problem here that I shouldn't be ignoring.

Any suggestions from anyone?

David.

If you turn the DVD player off, the FreeView box should work as normal? - I've got mine wired like that.

I had a similar problem on a Goodmans TV I used to have, what happened was whenever anything that used RGB Scart was connected it was not possible to switch back to normal anaogue terrestrial TV. I suspect that is happening on your set too. You can find out very easily, just set the DVD player to output composite and see if it will let you switch back to terrestrial then.

Though personally I would just leave it as it is and not bother with analogue terrestrial as you can get the same service on your freeview box. I wouldn't worry about it as my Goodmans set lasted over 9 years.
