I was watching Andy's Video blog and he mentions the final 8 have been recording a track each for an album to be released on itunes.

I'm rather surprised they haven't done this sort of thing before.

if its on itunes does that mean you can buy all the tracks separately or will it just be you can buy the album as a whole

As i would only want Rhydian's track , maybe Same Difference as well, depending on what they recorded

If its i tunes I suspect you can get individual ones. Useful way of seeing who is popular. I want Rhydian singing week 1 and 2. I wonder which track they picked.

Pop Idol did it though, didn't they, they recorded a big band album, and also the second series recorded Happy Xmas (war is over) didn't they. So the theory of the contestants recording pre-final is not completely new

Its also a a good way for Cowell to hear how they sound in a record studio. It may help influence things behind the scenes.

I think the production team have caught on that they might not have a winner who will stay in the charts and make them loads of £££££ in the future, so they are capitalising on it now for as long they can.

PI2 did the same. They knew they didn't have another Will Young on their hands, so they put together a dodgy John Lennon Xmas cover and released it to recover any money they might lose in the future. Very cheeky.

I want to see how some of the acts sound recorded, and if they can bring it on record. I won't buy it though!

There were at least two Pop Idol albums. One was Swing (season 1), the other Christmas.

Yeah, the first series did a compilation oftracks performed on the show (but studio versions) and the second series did Bee Gees covers because Robin Gibb joined the judging panel. I loved Fame Academy - a cross between it and XF would be perfect

Apart from the fact it was a big band album, swing wasn't mentioned

What songs do you think they'll cover? Does anyone know if it's themed, and if so what the theme is? I'm going for the cynical option of "Songs We'd Love To Hear Leona Sing"

Any suggestions?

Can't you see it happening though? Hell they may even go the whole hog and only offer it free as an accompaniment to Leona's next album "Fleecing the GBP"

Ah, you are an optimistic one aren't you? I was joking by the way... I'm sure they wouldn't dare entitle a Leona album that, it'll be something universally adorable and all things to all men. Something like "Kittens are nice...but so are dogs...I mean if you're a dog person, not that there's anything wrong with that....Budgies....Gerbils....Debbie MacGee....Pigs....Ducks.....Bread."

Yeah, something like that
