Cannot reach Setup screen on DMR EX85
Peterpr

I have a fault which just occurred which I cannot clear.
When I try to go to Functions Setup the menu disappears within one second so I cannot access anything in it. If I try to select an item within that minute it just disappears faster. It does not go to the Functions first screen but direct to normal viewing of broadcast.

I have tried disconnecting the power for a while. Sometimes this produced a long "Please Wait" message so I though it might sort itself out but no, it's still unaccessible. I've tried three times, also there was a local area power failure which simulated this procedure. Is the any other reset sequence?

Hello Peter,
Did you find a cure? I have the same problem, it seems to appear when I plug in an HDMI cable.

I find it intermittant. Sometimes OK, sometimes not. I have an HDMI cable connected but do not often use it. I must check this soon.

I'd appreciate a solution to this also. My father is trying to conncect an EX75 by HDMI lead to a Samsung LCd and he has the same problem. However, I have the same EX75 model and mine is connected to a Panasonic LCD without any problems.

After an hours fiddling about I have managed to get the HDMI connection to work so far, this is the condensed version of what I did:-

Disconnect SCART & HDMI leads.
Connect the EX87 to the TV using a RF aerial lead ONLY.
The Setup menu is now accessible on the EX87, choose resolution as desired. (I used the specific setting 1080p)
Reconnect the HDMI lead.
If applicable to your TV, carry out a "scan" for HDMI devices.
Set the TV's HDMI settings as required.
Send a known programme/signal from the EX87 to the TV.
Go through all the TV input choices until the known signal is found & note its I/D.
Disconnect RF lead.
Reconnect the SCART lead (optional).
Proceed as normal!
(If there are still problems, I would suggest that both TV & EX87(my m/c) are turned OFF & ON between each stage in case there are any "handshaking" operations at switch-on.)

Hopefully I will not experience Peter's intermittent problem, and hope this helps someone out there.

Regards, Roger

See this thread as well that covers the same problem:-

Roger, I don't understand your reason for "Connect the EX87 to the TV using a RF aerial lead ONLY" as the EX87 does not have an RF modulator to transmit the setup screen. The RF cable mearly passes the broadcast channels through.

BTW at the moment I am not getting a problem with Setup and have not touched the HDMI cable. When I had the problem I tried disconnecting the mains for a while. Sometimes that worked, sometimes not. I am not aware of anything I have done that could have corrected it so I use it with trepidation.

Hi Peter.

I brought this same point to Rogers attention in another forum... I'm sure he won't mind me reproducing his answer here:
Hello again Gavtech,
Following your query, I've tried to reproduce what I originally posted and I can't!
As you say, use of an RF lead only will not work. (I now see the note in the manual that warns of this).
I must have left another lead connected, presumably the SCART, but how I could have missed it I don't know, it's big enough after all!
Sorry I can't be of more help,
Regards, Roger
