Dancing to the Scottish National Anthem. I think he is going to antagonise a lot of English and Welsh voters, or do you think he is having a lauf

How about Kate and Anton dancing to the English National Anthem or Getin and Camilla dancing to Land of my Fathers.

The idea is to galvanise the Scottish votes. If he suceeds, he will stay in the competition

The tempo of the anthem will do Kate no harm at all.

Well I've got Welsh and English blood, and it doesn't antagonise me as such - Flower of Scotland is a beautiful song. BUT, I do feel he's overplaying the Scottish theme, which seems a bit desperate to me. The fact that it's Kenny, and he gets on my nerves doesn't help. There, I'm being honest!

I'm fed up with all this crap

FoS IS NOT our national anthem,...... "God Save The Queen" belongs to us, the Welsh & the Irish too..... the English don't have first grabs on it.

FoS is a sporting anthem, nothing more and nothing less

Will Scots be watching Kenny dance standing to attention?

I agree with you 100%, allyfree.

However, a surprising number of our fellow countrymen and women do see it differently.

IMO, Kenny is shamelessly courting a certain part of the Scottish vote with his choice of costume last week, and choice of music this week.

And, I fear, a shameful number of our fellow countrymen and women will probably go along with it - especially those whose mindset allows them to see it as 'putting the English's gas at a peep', or similar.

As far as I'm concerned, these antics have actually turned me against Kenny. I had liked what I'd seen of his character in the early programmes, and would have cheered him on as an underdog.

Now I just think he's being underhand.

Hmm, should I stop beating about the bush, and say what I really think?

Sorry if it sounds ignorant, but I thought "Flower of Scotland" (or "Scotland the Brave") was used as a de facto National Anthem for Scotland when it would be conceivable for it to come into confusion if all of the UK's constituent countries tried to use "God Save The Queen"?. I know it has no official status (and that GSTQ is the official National Anthem for the United Kingdom as a whole), but that was how I thought it was used - same with England using "Jerusalem" or "Land of Hope and Glory"? I believe Wales' "Land Of My Fathers" is official, and that NI also use the Irish anthem, of which the name escapes me?

Of course, thinking about it, this could all boil down to being only used for Sport, but...

Well said. I don't want to sound patronising, but I love Scotland, love the Scottish people I know, and love its heritage and culture. But, I think the whole Scottish thing could be taken as a cynical attempt to capture a lot of Scottish votes. I'm sure Kenny would be disgusted at the suggestion - in public - but there you have it. On a certain level, I find it insulting, although not being Scots, I have no real right to be.

To be fair to him, I don't think he ever expected to have to wear a sparkly kilt. He said in Week 1 - with tongue firmly in cheek - that if he got to Week 5 he would wear a kilt for the Paso - I don't think in his wildest dreams he ever thought he'd stay in this long !

Do you not think the costumes are designed at the start of the series? He knew what he'd be wearing if he stayed in. They don't run 'em up the week before, you know

But that's the point..... I'm sure he never expected to be in long enough to actually get to wear it

To be honest, I don't think I did either. Still can't believe it, but there you go!

hmmm what a strange choice of song!

it all sounds a bit to cheesy to me have to say! i am scottish but the song choice will make no difference on how i will vote (which im guessing beforehand will not be for kenny)!

it really is a great song but just cant see it working for this type of thing. maybe i should just wait and see tho?

I know. I'm sure his rugby mates never thought they would see the day, to see Kenny dancing to Flower of Scotland

Its not a negative vote though so if you get votes from more heart fans you stay regardless of how many english people you put off.

You're half right..... "Scotland The Brave" is what they use under such circumstances to differentiate between the "home" nations during combined events - indeed, just yesterday the First Minister was singing it with the obligatory bunch of schoolkids to raise the profile of St Andrew's Day which is at the end of the month.

"Flower of Scotland" is what tends to be used at sporting events
