I have yet to encounter one that I would consider watchable on any SD content.
I'm sticking with my 24" wide Trinitron CRT.
So many times I have had to hold my tongue when viewing peoples newly bought LCD TV's not to offend them.
Reason being, I can see so many picture issues with them that I know now that mostly they are piss poor with anything other than the best HD picture.
Of course I'm speaking from my own experience and what I have seen but can anyone point out a model that does SD as well as a CRT?.
I'm genuinely interested and would seek out said TV to see if it does indeed display it well.
The ony way I can picture myself getting a HD TV soon is if I try and import a proper CRT HDTV from the US.”
Well, I do find myself fully agreeing with you there. I have a 3 year old Sony 32" CRT widescreen at the moment and the picture quality for say freeview (and DVD's) is, to my eyes, perfect - brill picture.
BUT - I really, really want a bigger screen - around 40". So, I am desparately trying to find a LCD/Plasma that can re-produce good SD freeview images. I have looked at many, many different LCD/Plasma sets during the past three to four months - and have been mostly very disappointed with the SD quality. Yes - ok - fed a decent HD signal, these sets really do look the business - they can be stunning.
But for those of us who won't be investing in any HD stuff right now, (well not until it becomes more 'mainstream') good SD picture quality is an absolute must.
So, I desperately want to like LCD/Plasma technology to get the bigger screen - money is not really an object either. I really want to buy one. But - with what I have seen so far, it really makes me want to stick with my CRT for as long as possible.
I did see a Panny PZ70 the other day (42" plasma) which was displaying freeview *reasonably* well - but even then, if you sit too close, on video material (say EastEnders or the like) it still isn't a patch on CRT.
Well - just my view anyway.
I fully appreciate people really like them and are more than happy with SD picture quality, so I respect others points of view on this. As I say, just my opinion,
Can anyone recommend a good LCD/Plasma for SD? I have been "nudged" into the Plasma area for SD as apparentl this does a better job for SD???
Cheers
