For those who aren't aware, probably the most important new feature is "virtual recordings" which solves the problem of recording two consecutive programmes on the same channel. No longer do you need to swear at the broadcaster when you discover that the end/start of the recording is in another recording that you've already watched and deleted... It also means that there's no glitchy gap caused by the stopping and starting of recording.

I've just been looking around and see that this forum is like a ghost town compared to others. I guess people should be more careful what they wish for

That's because there's an extremely active and well-informed community at www.toppy.org.uk

IT SEEMS TO ME that its better to have a ghost town than a forum filled with idiotic rants designed to cause maximum upset.

Oh certainly Glen. That's for sure! But I think it's often healthy to have more than 1 forum for a device. It means that the moderation isn't controlled by 1 source. Also a forum might attract different people to another etc. Competition is healthy, as they say. I'm sure digital spy would like this forum to be active because it draws in people to other parts of the site.

Just for the record, in case anyone hasn't noticed, MyStuff v5.51 (the bugfix release) is now on the Toppy site. As promised, in time for Xmas.

thanks for the update, as I browse DS, but rarely get to Toppy. I have yet to put any extra s/w on my box.

For a second time I was noticing drop outs in the sound. I checked and was still on PAL, as that can be a reason. Pulling the plug for 30 minutes seems to have fixed it.

I am also getting sound drop outs. Is this a My Stuff issues, or a Toppy problem, and what is the reason behind them?

It's unlikely to be MyStuff. Maybe a reception issue. Are you seeing any pixelation on screen at the same time as the sound dropouts?

Alternatively, your video/audio might have got reset. They should be PAL and PAL-I respectively.

I've not got a toppy but thinking of getting one, heard good reports about them, have had a Humax 9200 for just over 2 years & the front display is now so dim now I can hardly read it. and thinking about the toppy, can you recommend it?

The Toppy is often described as being aimed at the more techy-minded kind of user. The type who, just to take an example completely at random, knows how and when to start a new thread for a new topic rather than hi-jack a completely unrelated thread.

Yes, I have had it for about a month (my first PVR) and I have been seriously impressed. You can get them for about £200. (Have seen a clearance model at Empire direct, Bradford for £100!) The new model is due out so the 5800 may come down some more.

MyStuff 5.6 is now available. Reading through the Changelog http://www.bobdsmystuff.co.uk/ChangeLogs.shtml, these two pop out as good reasons to upgrade:

Quote:
“Faster access to the Archive, EPG and Options screens.
Support for the AccurateBookmark TAP ”

The AccurateBookmark TAP support is most interesting. Basically, if I understand it correctly, it gives the best of both worlds by looking for the FreeviewPlayback 'start' point and starting to play from there. However, in case of problems (e.g. the FP point being a few seconds late), the pre-padding is still there. Brilliant!

I have been using Accurate Bookmarking since its inception a couple of weeks back and can confirm it is brilliant. It is interesting to see which broadcasters get it right and which get it wrong. The new version of MyStuff will only start playback from the first bookmark if it is within the first ten minutes of the recording else it will start right from the beginning so no risk of accidentally seeing the final score or plot twist.

Yeah i installed AccurateBookmarking at the weekend along with MS56, and it is awesome. That along with merged recordings make me very happy

Just updated MyStuff and installed "accuratebookmarking". Wow!

I notice that it marks the end of the prog too, so you can jump straight to the end and wind back a few mins if you do want to see the final score!

Not that I've tried it, but do the bookmarks work in conjunction with the prog trimming functions in the main Toppy world?

It's stuff like this that sets the Toppy apart.
