agreed - her shoulders always appear hunched

she dances the way she used to act Sharon in Eastenders, if that makes sense

It's her face pulling that annoys me

Really interested as after my Medal Test (due very soon) we are going to include the v.waltz in our lessons.”

My Mum, who did a mean Old Time Waltz (as she likes to call it ) in her day, made very much the same points as Karen did today. She immediately called Craig's mark too low, and was commenting about Kelly's lack of heel leads all the way through, and then mentioned at the end that it didn't 'feel' right for that dance.

If all 3 of the other judges voted for Kelly and Brendan, it wouldn't matter who Len voted for
Even if he did vote for Alesha, it would still be 2-3 to Kelly.

your mum was right the dance just didnt have the right feel and the lack of heels from kelly gave it the wrong look

Onto another point, just how far do good looks, outfit, right figure for dancing etc., play a part and do the likes of Willie, Micha <last year> really stand a chance against someone like Kelly, Alesha, Gethin, Mark, Zoe and Emma.

How many times do we hear the judges say `you look absolutely gorgeous together` / `you should make babies` etc etc., Arlene swooning over the sexier looking men, Bruno and Craig obviously pay more attention to the aesthetical look of a couple than say Len does.
Just wonder what other people think .

I don't know anything about ballroom, but I agree that although I really loved the performance of Kelly and Brendan's dance, I didn't think Kelly individually did a job worthy of the score she got. But I do like watching her, as even though she isn't always technically 'on it', there's something charismatic about her dancing for me that i think has been covering up the fact she isn't technically great.

What I found interesting was the group dance, when Kelly was alongside Camilla and Alesha in the front row, and it was clear - for me, anyway - to see that Kelly just wasn't as good as Alesha, and of course nowhere near Camilla. I realised from that performance that Kelly isn't as good a dancer as I thought she was.

Well, my 8 year old little friend always votes for the sparkliest or nicest dress. Flavia won for her this Saturday.

It does make sense! She dances like Nancy in Oliver -
"Oom pah pah, oom pah pah - that's how it goes...."

I agree with these posts - and I like Karen although I'm not one of her followers LOL!

Agreed. I'm not a particular fan of Karen Hardy's but she seems to be the only one from this circus talking some sense about it in a calm, considered and respectful way while ackowledging the dance and entertainment aspects of the show.

Which in itself is quite an achievement for her because she's been very emotional when competing on the show but quite controlled when she's in her civvies.

So Karen tells us that Kelly had no heel leads in her Viennese Waltz. I'm no expert and I'm sure she's right.

But isn't it surprising that on the BBC website they have posted Phillip Jackson's "Jackson Five" where he gives his favourite dance as Kelly and Brendan and praises her footwork!!

Yet more evidence that the experts can't agree!!

Is this the same expert who failed to notice the third lift in their routine ?

Good point!! Although if I recall correctly, he wasn't sure - it was Karen that suggested to him that they had done three lifts.

Actually I can understand if he failed to count the lifts, but to not notice the complete absence of heel leads is astonishing, isn't it?

But Len didn't comment on Kelly's heel leads either, did he?
I don't take the programme seriously - it is a TV show, not a professional dance competition and as such, other factors besides dance technique are going to come into play - but as a viewer I like getting technical information from the judges. It gives the programme a tiny bit of gravitas.

It was Erin that pointed out the third lift and Phillip Jackson was still doing his introduction to the Red button commentary when the first one happened THAT's why he missed it - and he said that himself.

On Round 1 Saturday, before Brian and Karen danced their waltz a clip was shown from practice. Speaking full-on to camera, with despair and resignation (not jokingly as is sometimes the case with Lilia) Karen declared Brian was the worst student she ever had.

This was bound to get back to Brian before or after the dance -- what encouragement for a beginner performing his first dance in front of 9 million viewers!

When the pair walked up for judges' comments I noticed Karen smiling, but Brian was tight-lipped, avoiding eye contact with Karen. By the time of the dance-off I would describe the body language between them as chilly.

Compare this with Anton, who always stressed Kate's charm and potential, and always gave the impression he would fight a lion and a tiger at the same time to defend Kate. There are many Kates and Kennys and Brians among the viewing public of 9 million, many of them toying with the idea of dipping a toe on the dance floor. They are not dance experts, but they have eyes and ears and they warm to a supportive partner.

Six weeks later Kate and Anton are still striving with relish and connecting with supporters who vote (quietly, wearing dark glasses).

If all three did vote for Kelly agreed but in a case where both dancers are just as strong it wouldn't be a walkover like that

Brian Capron from Coronation Street, out in round 1 after scoring 18 on the waltz.

I felt the same way in the group dance. It'll be interesting to see how Kelly copes in dances like the jive which are quite fast.

the only way craig would pick kelly over alesha is if alesha did a terrible dance. Its obvious Alesha is his favourite.
I also think its obvious Bruno adores Kelly and would pick her over anyone.
The other two judges are the only ones who may base it on who is better on the night.
hopefully they will never be against each other in the bottom 2 though.

Do you think Kelly had any rise and fall in her waltz?
