W850i Walkman/phone - one album won't transfer!
Inkblot

I've been using an SE W850i Walkman phone for six months and never had any problems transferring music to it from my Mac - until I downloaded an album (legally, paid for) from 7digital. Every other album I've tried has transferred across as a complete album, so it appears as an album, by artist and individual tracks. But this one only appears as individual tracks; the album name and artist name just don't show up. It's 192kbps AAC, no DRM, if that's relevant; all my home-ripped music is AAC and works OK on the W850i.

Any ideas how to cure this? The album appears correctly in iTunes, I've tried using a separate ID3 editor to get rid of any irregularities but each track appears to be labelled with the correct artist and album (and every other album I've downloaded or ripped has worked just using iTunes). What could be different about this one?

I've got an 810.. but it can't be that different...

Is it creating a folder for the Artist/Album on the phone card? if not where is it droping the tracks, in the root /music directory?

You could just try manually creating the folder and dropping the tracks in without using iTunes...

Of course that does not solve the problem of why it's happening!

If I use iTunes (+ iTuneMyWalkman to synch with the phone) it doesn't appear on the phone card at all. If I drag the folder containing the album across and drop it in "music" it appears exactly the same way as all the other albums but it doesn't appear in the Walkman "my music" menu under artists or albums - it turns up in "unknown album" with the tracks in alphabetical order instead of album order. All the other music on the phone is organised by artist and album and tracks appear in album order. It's just this one that's different!

And the solution was...

renaming the files from .mp4 to .m4a . For some reason 7digital use the .mp4 extension for AAC files whilst others use .m4a for non-DRM AAC.
