It's nice to see someone who doesn't feel intimidated by the politically correct police who roam these boards

I like Phoebe.
She is the only decent vocalist in Hope. Being also young, she can grow to be even much better.I expect she will continue to pursue a musical career alone.
She can do soo much better!

I don't think 16 year olds should speak about each other like that.

She is a very good singer though.

I'm not quite sure what political correctness has got to do with whether Phoebe is attractive or not but, for the record, I'm 33 and I think she's gorgeous.

Political correctness is a bit daft, is suppose theres nothing wrong in principle with a man of any age saying Phoebe or any other 16 year old girl is say nice looking.

Its other rude stuff they shouldnt be saying

What I mean, though, is I have no idea what political correctness has to do with this issue at all. Political correctness is about not potentially offending religious, cultural, ethnic, etc. groups. Nothing whatsoever to do with who fancies who.

Nope, I think that's fine, too. She's legal and she's in the public eye. It might be tacky and maybe even creepy to do so, but that doesn't make it wrong.

No im not so sure now either, now you have mentioned it.

There was interesting post before about Phoebe, for example fancying her aged 15 years & 364 days and a day later aged 16.

Unfortunately for them (not me) its the law.

There's no law about fancying anyone.

Legally, yes. Morally, it's a little more grey.

But, the truth is that we're all animals, and you cannot choose who you're attracted to. All you can do is choose how you act.

It's not like there's some magical biological change that happens to someone on their 16th birthday. It's just the age that we, as a society, have determined that the majority of people will be emotionally and physically mature enough to deal with it.

I suppose so, but my sister is 2 years below me and if i thought for a second that some old bloke fancied her, but didnt act on it, i would still be incensed.

I'm sure you would, and you have that right. And, of course, what kind of person you are would depend on how you acted on your feelings of anger.

Is that a question that anyone can answer, really? People have taste in people. I can't define why I find Jennifer Connelly gorgeous, but she certainly makes me go weak at the knees when I see her. It's an instinctual reaction and not one that you can really break down logically or analytically.

Besides which, what would your response be if they said "her bum"?
kev4449

I dont know actually, id be shocked and confused as to why an oldish man fancied a 14 year old because of her bum.

Then id pull a face at him.

For starters who's 15? Secondly there's plenty of middle age women on here who suggest far greater things to young males contestants, but this seems acceptable.

There's a world of difference saying a 16 year old girl is "attractive" and actually acting on it.

The topic somehow went from Phoebe to my sister who is in year 10.

Because im hoping to do psychology, if i ever make it to uni,
I would like to know why initially an old person finds a young person (under 16) attractive.

Mate, if you figure out why people are attracted to specific people, then you'll make a mint. People are just wired the way they are.

I assume you have certain things that you find more attractive than others? You're likely (although not certain) to prefer either girls or boys, for a start. Then maybe you like blondes, or have more of a thing for brunettes? Maybe you're a boob man, maybe you're a bum and leg man, maybe you find a person's eyes to be their best feature. And so on and so forth.

Look at the "do you like girls or boys" question. I assume you're in to girls, due to this thread. Now, can you explain why you're attracted to girls but not boys without giving an answer like "because they're better looking" or "because they're women"?

It's also worth pointing out that there's a marked difference between paedophilia and being attracted to people who are under the age of consent. Most people are attracted to certain signs of maturity - I mentioned boobs above. It's perfectly possible to see a 15 year old girl with nice boobs and for that unevolved, lizard brain stem of ours to go "Boobs! Boobs good! Me want boobs!". It's a biological reaction that you have no control over and, while it may not be something that you talk to your gran about, there's nothing wrong with it, provided that your actions aren't out of order. After all, it's our higher brains that define who we are, not our basest animal instincts.

Paedophiles, on the other hand, are attracted to immaturity and look for things like lack of boobs. Now, I have no idea what causes paedophilia in people and I'm sure I'd be a very rich man if I did but, given that there have been instances of paedophiles queueing up around the block to have themselves castrated, I'd be prepared to guess that it's something that is hard-wired in to certain people, or which is caused by trauma early in life (most sexual abusers were themselves abused as children).

As for why men seem to go for young girls in particular, again there can't be any definitive answer because nobody understands how the brain works that well, but the most popular theory is that it's simply connected to breeding. Women become infertile around their 50s, therefore a mature but young girl is attractive from a biological stand point because she will be able to carry that man's babies with the least risk and the highest probability of both the mother and baby surviving the pregnancy and birth. That also can explain why older men tend to be considered more attractive than older women - because men don't become infertile with age, therefore it doesn't matter, biologically-speaking, what age the man is to the woman.

That's the theory, and I'm certainly not claiming that that's the gospel truth, but it does make a lot of sense.
