Does anyone know why the Dance Off was ditched this week?

gritty I hope you've registered your email address with abc.com so you can vote for him on Tuesday. I too am besotted and read his blog every day http://www.pbrnow.com/blog/index.cfm/ty-murray. It's strange because I don't fancy him in the least - I just think he's such a nice guy. This series is great - I have Gilles for the drool factor and Ty for the wanting him to go as far as he can in the competition factor.

FT - we're going to have such fun in June!! We'll have to convince ej to watch as well.

Yes, I'm registered and actually his blog is the first thing I read every morning. I also have to confess that a) I've posted on TWop b)I've watched bull riding clips b) read bios on Ty and Jewel (she's a really interesting character d) listened to her music and got the references to her life with Ty - he appears in one video; co-wrote a song with her e) her life with Ty is referenced in a few songs. Eagerly await the poems she wrote about her relationship with Ty but didn't publish because she was worried about Ty's mum's reaction to reading them.

I haven't gone back to check the actual wording but on the abc site it 'states' that the dance off was only happening for the first few weeks. Seems like they can pick and choose when to use it!!

I'm another who absolutely loves Ty. I've even taken to staying up on Monday and Tuesday to watch DWTS live on the internet. Madness...

So do I. Every week I try and force myself to go to bed before the Results (an hour later than the performance show) but whilst Ty is still on, I just can't get to sleep, so up I get and watch.

Need some sleep but I want Ty on for a couple of more weeks more!!!

Ty is very sweet, he has that 'little-boy-lost' sort of look that makes him so endearing. [Not sure he would find that description a compliment, though?!]

I'm guessing that it was only for the first 6 weeks.

Ty does seem to have captured a lot of hearts with his clean living ever the gentleman cowboy personality - he makes me smile!

We've already said on here that he reminds us of Mark Ramprakash and for me they are a similar kind of guy!

DWTS has not had really had a contestant like Ty like before. He is the endearing underdog who you want to champion. Dancing does not come easy to him, he is not good looking or sexy in an overt way (but in his own quiet masculine way in my opinion) and gives every ounce he has. He has a cowboy cadence when he speaks and that cowboy build which tends to be a little on the bowlegged side - truly a fish out of water on a ballroom dance floor. For all his toughness and athleticism he does have a little boy vulnerable quality to him. He has never whined - not once in any interview he has given.

I had a thought that if he had the SCD judges doing the judges he would charm Arlene and Len would vigorously try to defend him against Craig "never knock a tryer." Who knows, maybe he would even charm Craig. I think Len has a soft spot and wants to see him waltz and tango before he writes him off. Even when Len criticizes him he seems to be in Ty's corner.

He has surpassed Gilles on vote#1 poll as the favorite male celebrity when he is in 4th place on favorite couples. Chelsie is the favorite pro on that site. So these two are doing something to capture the public even in the face of low scores and some awkward dancing.

I do think the final 4 will be Gilles, Shawn, Melissa and Lil Kim as it should be. But it will be a sad night when Ty goes home because he brought so much to the show. I enjoy his roll-in package almost as much as his dancing. I think his waltz will be enough to put him through another week though. We shall see what happens. I do think he has potential to raise his scores and outlast LT and Chuck.

DWTS is having a much better season. There isn't as much Hollyweird or fooling around and there is focus on dancing. The results are still bad with awful guests and unrefined pro dances (for the most part). DWTS could so take a page from SCD and book better talent and do better pro dances. I have to skip through that stuff to get to the elimination.

Lili24 I agree with your the final 4 and I'd just like Ty to outlast Lawrence and Chuck, but if he stays in a little bit longer then I could cope with that!

I guess everybody likes a genuinely nice guy who just gets on with things and does his best - what a sweetie!

I really like Chuck, I'm afraid Julianne is the problem in that couple!

I do think he has a chance against LT and Chuck especially if the next dance is much better. Julianne seems to be outdancing Chuck every week and he seems uncomfortable being there with all his "I need to get manhood back" talk. If the cowboy can put that aside he can too. LT just looks so stressed every week and Edyta doesn't look real happy this season either. You want to at least feel like a celebrity wants to be there. Plus when Ty does have a good dance he seems to do better than those two and he is certainly more entertaining to watch.

What I would hate is that the public will turn on him if others are dancing better and he stays - knocking out one of the four frontrunners. You know how that goes. The ideal scenario would be for him really raise his scores where he has earned a place in the competition along the other frontrunners.

It would be a Cinderella story if he could do that because he was pegged to go home the first week or two and he is still being written off as a bad dancer. I don't think people expected to come across as well as he does because he is so low key when he is interviewed. I believe in Cinderella stories so I am not giving up on Ty until I feel like he has reached the end of what he can do.

Interesting - think I can see what you're seeing but I wasn't a great fan of MR. Wasn't a great fan of Matt Dawson, but if I HAD to pick a SCD celebrity to compare, he'd be the one.

Tbh, I've always supported who I thought was the 'best' celebrity dancer (always a good discussion-point on DS. On SCD I've followed Matthew Cutler since Carol Smilie (who I knew wasn't the best dancer, but so enjoyed her CarolCam and posting on Team Cutler, that it really didn't matter).

Obviousy, the next series imo Matthew did have a great partner and the best dancer in Alesha, so my passion was really easy. Also enjoyed his partnership with Christine Bleakley and no celebrity managed to inspire me to change my loyalty - so just enjoyed the ride.

So this is my first experience of besottedness with a celebrity. Reminds me of the good old days of SCD Series 4.

gritty can you post a link to how you are watching DWTS live on a Monday and Tuesday night? Or sazziep? I'd love to watch it as it's actually happening and don't sleep that well anyway so this would be a perfect solution.

I don't know why I like Ty so much. Maybe it's because he's a "real" man and is still prepared to try and learn to dance.

Matt Dawson was a worthy finalist, although I'd have put Louisa above him (Emma didn't appeal to me). I'm afraid that magic spark never lit up for me when Matt D danced in the way it did for Mark Ramprakash. I've always loved Lilia and her choreography though (hope she's back this year).

Matt C is my favourite SCD pro and for me Carol Smilie is the most hard done by female celeb on SCD - she deserved better from the judges imho.


Gilles is fabulous, but too much for me (can't explain what I mean by 'much' !) and I think I like Ty so much because if I was ever to be swept off my feet by a man I'd like it to be someone like him! He's a man's man but knows how to treat a woman right!

PS I've been married 23 years btw and my imagination can get carried away very easily!!

Ty - clean living etc., Ramps - during scd had to tell his wife about his affair before it was made public.....

Ramps - very sexy sort of guy; Ty - very sweet, but very bland - no way is he sexy!

Ah, but I didn't know about the affair thing straight away - I was gobsmacked though and not at all impressed.

And I do think Ty is quite sexy! Look at this photo - he can lasso me anytime!!

Yeah he looks better in that photo, but let's be honest photos are usually air-brushed etc before being published. He doesn't do it for me ............... mind you, when you look at his earnings....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the respected American magazine "TV Guide" about dancing pro and celeb salaries:

“Dancing with the Stars" not only jump-starts fading careers, but it also pays pretty well. Star salaries can range from $25,000 to $50,000 per week, with bonuses for the three stars in the semi-finals, according to show sources. "It all depends on how much the show wants the celebrity," says one source. "If it's a dormant person who needs to remind the public that they're still alive, then they're on the low end of the pay scale."

Some of the contracts---like Shawn Johnson's, which was made public because she's a minor and it needed a judge's approval---have an up-front fee with raises tacked on for every week the star makes it through. Johnson's up-front fee was $125,000. For weeks three and four, she gets an extra $10,000. For weeks five, six and seven, an extra $20,000. Eight and nine, an extra $30,000. And for the last two weeks, $50,000 per week.

Paydays for the pros aren't nearly so sweet. "They want to make the pros feel like they're easily replaceable," says the source. The pros are under five-year contracts at $5,000 per week. Bonuses for making it to the semi-finals are only $500. Once their star is sent home, the paychecks stop, as does their rental housing, if they've relocated to Los Angeles. For that reason, most of the pros grab the opportunity to make a little extra cash by dancing on results nights. "But that pays only AFTRA minimum," says another source. "It's a couple hundred bucks.”

Interesting - that means DWTS probably pays its pros less than the SCD pros who reportedly get about £33k for a series. It still doesn't sound like bad money to me though, especially given the increased profile a pro would get from appearing on the show.

The celeb amount is much higher though than on SCD.
