I'm thoroughly enjoying Brandy and Maks now - definitely my favourite couple.... love their chemistry and they get better with each passing week. The haters have given Brandy a hard time but I think they'll go all the way. They complement each other.
I absolutely agree, I really hope they win.

Get ready folks. DWTS tried a new idea tonight. The instadance where they learned their dance but did not get their music until 20 minutes before the dance.

Just saw it... Not a bad idea really, as 3 of the couples did a fine job. Perhaps the idea of making them listen to new music helped break some sort of barriers for them.

For some reason ABC did not want the public to know who was in the bottom two. They announced the 2 couples one "in jeopardy" and the other in the bottom two.

I thought this episode of Dance Center was hilarious and Len is such a good sport to play along but he also gets to give his opinions about the final dancers.

One thing which we in the UK don't see (thank God!) are the US adverts. Apparently DWTS has been one of the most targetted TV shows for carrying political adverts during their recent election campaign. I found this on TIME magazine:

"The show, which draws more than 15 million viewers a week, was among the most targeted shows for political ads this season, with a combined 1,773 spots. That's 591 minutes of DWTS campaign ads for the 2010 election. The Times found that the ads for Dancing With The Stars were split nearly 50-50 between the two parties.

"Robert Thompson, professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University, says this political balance is notable: 'Apparently, Dancing With The Stars is the one place where we can just get along. It's a good old-fashioned broadcast-era show.'

"This season of Dancing has perhaps been its silliest yet. Presented with the presence of Bristol Palin, a non-singing, non-dancing political scion, the show's producers have not tried to hide her, but instead have ramped up the ridiculousness surrounding her. The absurd apex of this effort came in a minute-and-a-half segment in week six: Palin, stumbling through the theme song from The Monkees, looking completely lost, all while wearing a gorilla suit. It was the highlight of the season, perhaps the 90 strangest seconds of television to be aired this year."

TIME also mentions that DWTS is one of the few TV programs that people want to watch live, rather than recorded, and that the diversity of those taking part gives the program a very broad appeal:

"Given the universal appeal of the cast, and the viral spread of its influence, it's little surprise then that campaigns chose to spend money right here, where they can reach just about any demographic."

The ratings for DWTS have never been higher. Everyone said it was dying and it actually beat the baseball playoffs. That is incredible because it never beats the sports show.

It is almost a cult following.

The ads are awful but we don't pay a licence fee. Instead, we have to endure ads as our payment. I can do an entire sink of dishes, make a omelet, write a chapter, do a work-out, carve a roast, peel potatoes and make an important phone call in one commercial break.

the money to produce television shows has to come from somewhere. the revenues from ads on american tv make up a great deal of the budgets allowed for the production of many program(me)s.

back to dancing! I don't think the tea party really has an influence over the Palin girls' votes (I don't personally like her especially her 'teen advocate' moniker). Similar was said about Marie Osmond and the Mormons.

Everyone did well last night. I know some people are sick of Jennifer's whining, but she wasn't bad last night and her dancing was great. I really like her.

I had the impression that even the non-eliminated couple in the bottom 2 wasn't necessarily actually 2nd from bottom ??

I like her dancing. As a matter of interest, what has she done since Dirty Dancing?

I've seen her in a TV movie and she's appeared in a few TV shows. She played Mindy in "Friends" for one episode Nothing spectacular.

Jennifer can't help having health problems. Yes, complaining about everything is tedious to listen to, but I genuinely don't think she's playing the sympathy card. She seems to be in agony at times. She's much older than the other contestants at this point, but she's the best dancer by far IMO. The editing probably isn't helping either. Brandy is prone to moaning too, and Kyle's immaturity is annoying at times.

I take your point. She's definitely a good dancer, but I find her a little cold at times. Brandy's waltz last week gave me goose-bumps it was so full of feeling; I've never got that from Jennifer.

It's all down to personal taste isn't it? I love Jennifer and Derek but am left cold by Brandy and Maks. I don't think that Jennifer wants to be seen as moaning, a lot of it seems to be down to what the producers put into the intro vt before the couple dances and Brooke's (bless her) questions after the dance.

I didn't used to understand the fuss about Derek Hough but after this series think he's fab. Him, Mark Ballas and Tom Bergeron I'd welcome to Strictly with open arms.

Oh and I didn't know that Jennifer went out with Matthew Broderick, I used to have quite a crush on him!
