cable install colour problems...
Hi, i have some 6 core phone wire but i am confused with the colours.
I wana install a few points around the house, however the cable i have is not what i am used to. I heard its new colours or such. I have 6 core flat cable with the following colours. Orange, Blue, Red, Green, White and Black No stripes, they are solid colours all throughout the cable. I am used to dealing with cables with stripes like white and orange, orange blue and white and blue but this cable doesnt havet hat. Any help would be greatful ![]() thanks |

Does not really matter, pick any colour you want as long as you use the same colour at each connector.
e.g. if you use blue for pin 2 and white for pin 5 make sure use the same at each extension. |

![]() great site this is tho, get all the advice n help every1 needs ![]() on the reel, it says "6 core telephone cable" The difference between them might extend to more than the colours used however. Your cable may use stranded wires whereas "normal" phone cable uses solid core wire. Solid core is better for the IDC connectors used inside the phone socket as the connections tend to be a bit more secure. Worst case is if the cable is the "tinsel" variety. So called because that is what it resembles. A thin ribbon of metal woven round string. A real pain in the wotsits to solder and almost useless for IDC termination because it simply isn't solid enough. Only advantage of it is it is very flexible, just a royal pain to work with

Looks like it is for phone instrument extension leads. Mind you it will do the same job as the "proper" installation cable.
If memory serves (only a few working brain cells left ) red and white are used for the line pair. But as long as you stick to any two colours throughout you should be OK
