Do we have a problem with Youtube?

We've discovered that most of the Dancing with the Stars videos on Youtube have been removed. This is what Raphael says on his site.

"Note: a lot of videos from season 5 are no longer available because they got pulled off YouTube. Please be patient as I sort this out People will have to resubmit them. Note to uploaders: do not put the show name and the performerss names in the title, description or tags of the videos. Otherwise they will be pulled off by Youtube."

Are we going to have the same problem here, do you think? I guess it's a copyright thing.

Just looked and the person I subscribe to on you tube for DWTS vids has had their account suspended.

Won't be a problem here for some as the BBC upload a lot.

Me too. How are we going to find out the result in the morning?

I wouldn't be surprised - it is a "copyright thing", and YouTube really don't want to be sued by broadcasters for basically pirating their material. So, unfortunately, you may find that your favourite Strictly videos get deleted too (and I've uploaded a few in my time. I was aware that I was blatantly ignoring the copyright warnings while I did it though, so can't complain!)

ABC have clamped down on youtube a lot recently. Lots of desperate housewives, Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy vids have also been pulled.

One problem for the US videos are they have sold the show to UK Gold who have rights to exlusive showing of the episode later in the week in the UK. Having the clips available on youtube before this show airs is a breach of contract. No other contract exists for SCD. I'm sure there are also copywrite violations involved to do with US airing as well.

I doubt we'll have problems. As people have said, the BBC even upload the vids!

I've had videos of the British Open and from Italian Dancing With The Stars pulled off my account before. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they clamped down even tighter.

Not surprised about British open as that is being sold as an exclusive DVD.

copagedesigns DWTS videos are all still up.

Diane recently uploaded 8 parts of an Osmonds Special on Oprah, my guess is that is what got her account suspended, as everything was fine till then.

I do think it's only a matter of time before the BBC clamps down on it. They must be aware how much of the show is on youtube, especially if they're still reading DS which has hundreds of references to it.

Hopefully the only reason they would stop it is if they thought it would interfere with their sales- because they were going to release a DVD!

The DWTS results are posted in Wikipedia shortly after the announcements.

It's breaking my heart to think that I may never get to see the final few weeks of DWTS. Helio might be in the final and I will miss it!!!

Need to agree with someone who has UKTVGOLD to put it on Youtube in a discreet manner. Anyone prepared to do this? We could pm the URLs rather than publish them here.

Can't you find some nice kind friend who will record the whole show for you on a Friday night, then you won't have to rely on youtube!

TO get past copyright probs you have to have someone with a private account - who puts them up under different names and then posts one video which tells people if they want to see the video they have to become his friend - and then they can watch them.

Thats how I saw the whole of the new James Bond and Stardust - I saw someone had put up an advert for it and became their friend.

I don't think anyone can assume that just because the Beeb put some videos on YouTube, that it's perfectly OK for anyone else to do so.

I don't really know about this subject, but I thought that the reason why the Beeb put up videos was that they were intended to be tasters and trailers, and that surfers, worldwide, would then want to view the full programs, from the Beebs own website, or other places, and would, in the process, pay to do so.

I thought that the BBC website that people from outside the UK see appears different to the one that we see, and that it supports paid advertising, that's not seen by us (or it will).

And does the BBC derive a revenue, now, from adverts associated with the videos that it loads onto YouTube. I though I read somewhere that it does (or will).

And there are also wider issues about how the BBC is funded. Would it be right for us licence payers to be paying for programs to be made, which the rest of the world then gets to see for free.

Here's an old press release which explains something of the relationship between the BBC and YouTube.

I couldn't actually find it on the BBC's site, and don't know if it represents current thinking (this text comes from www.technologynewsdaily.com):

BBC and YouTube, Content Partnership
Published Sat, 2007-03-03

The BBC, BBC Worldwide and YouTube announced the beginning of a partnership.

This non-exclusive partnership will create branded BBC "Channels" on YouTube operating under separate BBC and BBC Worldwide agreements.

The partnership, which will build over time, comprises three elements:

From the BBC: Clips of new shows and specially commissioned promotional content linked to popular series such as Doctor Who and Life On Mars. At launch, the YouTube community will be able to enjoy a range of specially- created video diaries including David Tennant and Freema Agyeman, who'll take viewers around the set of Doctor Who; John Simm going back in time for Life On Mars; and Clive Myrie on the streets of the red zone of Baghdad

From BBC Worldwide: An entertainment channel called "BBC Worldwide" showing clips from material such as Top Gear, Spooks, The Catherine Tate Show, The Mighty Boosh and a range of factual programmes including those presented by David Attenborough. The channel will include a limited amount of advertising.

From BBC World, the BBC's international commercial television channel: Around 30 news clips per day will be offered, with up-to-the-minute news and analysis from around the world. The advertising-funded clips will be available to users outside the UK only.

Here's a further report, on the same subject, from BBC News, today:

"Clips from BBC show Strictly Come Dancing are among TV footage made available on social networking website Bebo..."

I hope so, but I wonder if UK Gold broadcasts the whole 2 shows in their entireity or, like the BBC last Summer, cuts bits out, like the Pro's dance?

Another solution is to upload to a file sharer like megaupload or sendspace, and provide links to share.

Or if all else fails, someone in the DWTS forum has suggested this torrent download that I know nothing about, but there's a link there.

There's only 2 weeks to go, and it's sooo mean of UK Gold/ABC to block it like this. When I enquired it was £100 to buy the digibox to receive UKGold, and then a monthly subscription. Not everyone has Sky already, and the fact that it's partly BBC made, they should have it on BBC3, having whetted our appetities by putting the last series on BBC1.

I as yet haven't seen any DWTS videos that have ever been specifically removed by ABC or other company. From what I've been able to see it was the Desperate Housewives and Oprah videos that were specifically removed by Disney and EIP on Diane1253's account.
Last year some DWTS videos disappeared but Amazing Race, SYTYCD videos also featured on the account

In theory any record company that allows their songs to be used on SCD can demand that the videos be taken down.

The Strictly Dance Fever videos were taken down by 20th Century Fox. They may be the company behind the soundtrack CD that was released.

There are full episodes of series 1 of the Mighty Boosh on youtube. I'm surprised the BBC doesn't seem bothered about it. Especially as they are for sale on DVD.

I meant that if the BBC stop other uploading dances we should still have them on you tube as the BBC them selves upload them, though is usually just the dance not the training VT.
