New Kate Bush song!
![]() Marvellous, this woman is pure talent. Her music is incredible and with so much intergrity. She is an oasis in a desert of commercial trash! I am still listening to Aerial virtually everyday 2 years after it was released. I am so happy at this news! |

Steve Lamacq played Lyra on Roundtable on 6 music earlier. It did sound a bit like an Enya track, but i thought it was quite good. Steve seemed to be under the impression that it's gonna be released as a single.

Cool, it's for 'The Golden Compass'. The title 'Lyra' kind of gives that away! One of my favourite books (it's called 'Northern Lights' in the UK, the first part of the His Dark Materials trilogy). It has the potential to be a fantastic film, a lot better than most of this kind.

Kate Bush's voice sounds really fantastic on Lyra.
The track sounds devoid of any musical instruments (if you exclude a wind machine!) and relies totally on the voice of Kate Bush and a boys choir! This sparceness (and simplicity) is a bit underwhelming when you first hear Lyra, but the track is a grower, and after a couple of listens you begin to get it and appreciate it more for what it is. Its got the Kate Bush mark of quality stamped all over it, although its clearly not a 'pop' record destined for the charts. Kate Bush has once again delivered something completely different and challenging to the listener, and that in itself is to be applauded in this age of plastic manufactured money making (and souless) music. |

I've listened and been a great fan of Kate Bush since I was a kid. She can do no wrong, in my eyes.

It's not an "immediate" song.......has taken me quite a few listens to start to "get it" but I think the sparseness of it is it's great strength..........I would place money on the fact that come next February Kate will have a nice bright shiny Academy Award for Best Original Song sitting on her kitchen table!

Just bought it on itunes.
Gorgeous. Thirty years next year since Wuthering Heights and she's as brilliant as ever. Read online somewhere that Entertainment Weekly have tipped her for an Oscar nom for it. Fingers crossed.
