Top 10 dances so far based on view counts:

1. Alesha and Matt - Jive - views 38,988 - week 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL1VtH_fiEc

2. Kelly and Brendon - Rhumba - views 37,458 - week 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh3ApPWrCzc

3. Kelly and Brendon - Tango - views 14,987 - week 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrGYuiEdUhI

4. Alesha and Matt - Foxtrot - views 9,535 - week 5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcUwZKCkHXA

5. Matt and Flavia - American Smooth views 8,646 - week 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m10NCBfGGQ

6. Alesha and Matt - Rhumba - views 8,688 - week 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q8u4s26RTw

7. Matt and Flavia - Jive - views 7,500 - week 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfMKi58Rz40

8. Matt and Flavia - Cha Cha Cha - views 7090 - week 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSFJKbrBoM4

9. Penny and Ian - Quickstep - views 6377 - week 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYGdv6feHRc

10. Kelly and Brendon - Pasa Doble - views - 6096 - week 5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3BCTPZN6Qg

Things to note: Both Alesha and Kelly both have high figures for the same dance across several videos (e.g. Alesha has another Jive vid with nearly 10,000 views). These have been left i've only their counted their highest viewed video for that particular dance!(add them together placings still the same) Obviously this is only a good indication of what people were watching up until the weekend. John Barnes , Gethin may break into the Top 10 in the coming weeks after their videos have been up long enough to generate more views.

Alesha and Matt have the highest placed most recent video (highest new entry, if you will) Their foxtrot being 4th most viewed despite only being added on week 5.

Matt and Flavia have an impressive showing with 3 dances in the Top 10! Incidentally Gabby's quickstep just missed out coming 11th.

What do you think to the chart?

That chart is a very good idea, for at least two reasons.

Firstly, there's a large sample size, in the 10's of thousands.

By contrast, for example, in the 2 polls on this forum, there are generally less than 100 votes for any couple, so it's potentially not hard for anyone who wanted to, to fiddle the results [not that they are, but they could].

Also the figures on YouTube are totally transparent. Anyone can sign on and see how you got them. There's no suspicion of bias or smoke and mirrors.

[When the BBC did the Castaway program, they had some polls on their website where viewers could vote for what "goodies" were to be given to the Castaways. But you could sign on to their Forum and see that there were just a handful of people (just 2 or 3) contriving to load up hundreds of votes together - it was total nonsense].

Wow thats quite impressive when you look at it like that.
Will be good to see how those figures change as the show goes on.
I presume last year the most watched scd dance on youtube was Mark and Karens AT?

Or maybe the salsa?

Very interesting stats! I'm sure half of the Alesha/Matt Jive viewings came from me

Another reason why the YouTube stats are so good is that they show what people really want to watch, and not just what they say they want to watch.

For example, we know that Kate and Anton "must be very popular", because they apparently get large numbers of public votes on a Saturday.

But the YouTube stats show that not that many people actually want to see them dance!

Really good.

Alesha and Matt's jive have gotten a lot views all round i know 2egimatic uploads has nearly 10,000 plus the BBC's upload aswell.

The BBC having the dances on their site does make the figures slightly less meaningful. I've done quite a few viewings there. The most recent have been Gethin & Camilla's VW, same for Kelly & Brendan and Alesha's salsa. I also watched Mark & Karen's salsa recently and am now totally confused as to what the judges are looking for.

Thanks for feedback. I'll be updating it every Tuesday. I search using the term "strictly come dancing" this ensures the search results capture every video. I had to filter through lots of Mark and Karen's dancing (especially their tango!) Jill half-penny and Emma Bunton also were in there a lot, as well as the professional dancers!

I don't think it matters that there are videos on other sites.

Whenever you see people make references to videos in this forum, it's almost always to YouTube.

Where there are videos on other sites, that people may also be viewing, then it's fair to assume that the profile of views on the other sites is going to be similar to the profile on YouTube.

Keep it simple.

The YouTube stats are still far more meaningful than any other poll.

Alesha and Matthew's Salsa proved an instant hit with YouTube viewers generating over 24,000 views after just 1 week, and is this weeks highest new entry at number 3.

The chart continues to be dominated by 3 couples, and looks like continuing to do so with Alesha's dreamy Waltz, Kelly's Jive and Matt's Quickstep all likely contenders for new entries next week.

Sadly, John's Salsa, which received a 10 from Judge Len Goodman, missed out with 5,671 views, charting at 13th.

Gethin's disappointing showing continues, his Viennese Waltz could only manage just over 2000 views, not enough to make a serious dent into the chart.

Just wondering how is this done?

Are these from single videos -or are they from all of the uploaded videos?

ie. Alesha & Matts 41,000 view Jive... is that one video or several videos that have had say 5 or 10 thousand hits?
NeverInDoubt

No. I use the the highest viewed figures only for this chart. I found last week that adding the video views together, the chart placings remained the same. It evened itself out.

When I see the charts I can't help looking again and boosting the numbers higher LOL!

All the dances are more easily available on the BBC site. It would be interesting to find out which dances are being viewed the most there.

What could be easier than clicking on the links in this thread? LOL!

It would be good though if the bbc had viewing figures for each clip.

What I meant was that you can dip into any dance on any week.

I do like the simplicity and transparency of this poll.

Though a question which is probably on many people's minds would be the topical question of how are this week's latest dances being received: how do the viewing figures for Alesha's waltz, Kelly's jive, Matt's quickstep and Geshin's rhumba compare.

I suppose that you need a full week to elapse after the dances, in order to accumulate a good statistical sample of views. Though that inevitably makes the figures seem a "week late".

So we'll actually need to wait until this time next week to see what the cumulative viewing figures for this week's dances turn out to be.

The most up to date dance is week 6 so surely the delay is already there?

Yes...as stated previously it works out about a week behind. Saturday's dances are up but don't have enough to generate enough views to enter this week. Although they're almost certain to enter on the next update. Incidentally yesterday when I checked Kelly's Jive was ahead of Alesha's Waltz!! Only by a few though.

The viewers seem to much prefer viewing latin to ballroom.

Will be updating around this time tomorrow. A sneak peak shows there will be new entries for dances from this week! Breaking the trend. Alesha's cha cha has nearly 12,000 views already, after only 48 hours! Matt Di fans won't be disappointed either

10.(8) Matt and Flavia - Jive - views 9,441 - week 3

Alesha Dixon and Matthew Cutler now has the top 2 dances of the series. They also have the highest new entry with their electric Cha Cha Cha, beating Matt Di's Salsa which charts at an impressive 6. The latin stronghold continues with Alesha's foxtrot being the only ballroom dance in the top 10.

Due to the latin dominance Alesha's dreamy Waltz failed to make the top 10 this week. Kelly's Jive new at 9. Must be said Kelly only has one video for that particular dance so her position I would say is slightly generous!

Next week I would say Alesha's Jive will be toppled by either her Salsa or her Cha Cha Cha, or even Matt's Salsa.
