first post, hi everyone!

sincce we've had the average score for each couple, does anyone know the average score for each dance?

Gemz83, a very interesting maiden question.

Arlene goes on about the rumba being the nemesis of celebs, others the foxtrot. It would be nice to objectively confirm if scores match beliefs.

If our Honorary Librarian does not have dances named in his spreadsheet, then I shall do an analysis using excel and filter.

Hello!

Wikipedia, unfortunately, doesn't start telling us what dance each couple performed in which week until series 4, so I don't have the information at the moment. If anyone knows where I can find it all out, I'd be happy to do the averages!

Lots of information on here from the first series onwards.

gives dance-by-dance scores for SCD1 thru SCD5 to date. Unfortunately for the final 3 rounds it gives a composite total for 2 or 3 dances by a candidate all on the same night, so that from a total of 60 you cannot see if there was a fantastic quickstep coupled with an abysmal rumba, or the other way round.

I think you'll find that Ian and Victoria also give the individual judge's scores for each dance. Even in the later weeks where couples do two dances these scores are broken down into each dance so you could find them there. Hope that helps!

Looking forward to seeing the stats.

On the site http://journals.rpungin.fotki.com/scd/
the results of each dance are given. I think you'll find in Series 1 at least that the judges scores were announced in a different order.

For example, the very first dance - the Cha Cha by Natasha was scored 7,7,8,5 but the 5 was from Craig.

So if you're looking at the scores from each judge, you'll need to take that into account. Hope that helps.

Thats just for the first show when Craig and Bruno were swapped from their usual positions. After week 1, the scores are in the correct order.

Last year was the first year they introduced the AT
Marks routine has shot it into first place and only three people have performed it.

Rounded to the nearest integer for easy reading.
True then, hardest to score in the rumba - oh dear, Gethin.
Except for the cha cha cha - oh dear, Kenny.

To score tops, best go for ballroom dances.

Omg the Waltz is low scoring

Ah, I didn't put "Series 4 only" because they'll probably do it this year, whereas scoring the freestyle's been discontinued.

Thanks to Tissy mentioning that three people have done the Argentine Tango, I've just noticed that that site put Emma's AT down as a Tango, so a couple of my numbers were a touch off, though the rankings are the same. This is how it should have been:

#01 - Argentine Tango - 35.00
#02 - American Smooth - 31.59
#03 - Viennese Waltz - 31.00
#04 - Foxtrot - 29.88
#05 - Salsa - 29.33
#06 - Tango - 28.70
#07 - Jive - 28.61
#08 - Freestyle (Series One only) - 28.50
#09 - Paso Doble - 28.49
#10 - Samba - 28.35
#11 - Quickstep - 26.69
#12 - Waltz - 26.41
#13 - Rumba - 24.97
#14 - Cha Cha - 24.59

I think with all these 3 it must surely skew the scores somewhat that most contestants dance a rumba, cha cha, or waltz early on in the contest. After all didn't Matt Dawson get a 10 for his Waltz? And I think Jill Halfpenny had a high-scoring cha cha, too. And then there was Colin Jackson who scored highly on rumba.

So although those dances may be statistically hard to score highly in it's only one factor in a whole bunch.

(Though I do think that the waltz can suffer for being "too dull" and clearly the rumba can be difficult if you have counting issues or problems with getting up close and personal - witness Mark Ramprakash for the 2nd one, for instance!)

Equally, Quentin Wilson got 8/40 for his Cha Cha, so that hardly helps matters.

*laughs* quite! that would change things a bit wouldn't it

Can't help thinking if poor Quentin had had a chance to do the Argie Tango it might have changed the stats slightly

Makes Kate and Kenny look like pros.

In all 5 series the cha cha and waltz were danced in round 1, in the past 2 seasons by men only. In round 1 the celebs did not know which way was forward.

If we are truly sad persons then we could do an analysis of average scores round by round. For sure round 1 would be lowest by a long chalk.

We could also do an analysis of Bruce's gags round by round, but I suppose they would come out a deadheat, equally bad in all 12 rounds.

So, thanks to Mistermind's wonderful score averages on another thread, the celebs who've scored lowest in the dance styles they're doing this week are Kate, Kenny, Gethin and John, and Gethin and Kenny are doing the dances most likely to get a low score. Thanks to the lovely public Kate and Kenny are safe as houses, so that's John and Gethin in the bottom 2 with Len with his 'manly' sportsman fetish having the casting vote. That's why Geth's been on ITT so much this week, isn't it, because they know his days are numbered.

The above isn't meant as a dig at John, btw. He's lovely. (They wouldn't let me edit it to add that.)

Willie used to hunch his head forwards past Erin looking for his missing snooker table. Willie completely ignored the tango requirement of swivelling his head sideways a la The Exorcist.

John hunches his shoulders forwards looking for his missing football. He likes to smile during his dance, the only time he stopped smiling was when he lost his steps during the American Smooth, and spent the rest of the dance frantically trying to remember. So distracted was he that when he lifted Nicole he nearly overbalanced and dropped her (did I see momentary terror on Nicole's face?). John too is likely to completely ignore the tango requirement to look macho and dramatic, not to mention swivelling his head a la The Exorcist.

I suspect the dance-off to be between John and Kenny, who will in his own way completely ignore the cha cha cha rhythm. Judges will decide who did more ignoring.

Both Gethin and Matt are in danger of an unexpected drop into the bottom two, as the Swooning Army who vote for them both seem to switch from one to the other with lightning speed. Both should survive any dance-off for now.
