Here's a funny stat I picked up on another forum: In the whole of series one and two combined (including the series two xmas special), the judges handed out nine perfect tens.

So last night, the judges handed out the same number of tens as they did for the entire of the first two series. I know series one wasn't up to much, but series two had Denise and Jill! It's just unbelievable to me that they can claim the high marking this year is purely down to improved standards

It's not down to improved standards. As I mentioned before its because the series is longer now. Series 1 and 2 ran for 8 weeks, the last two series have been a 12 week run. Therefore 10's appear earlier otherwise it would get boring if it was just four 9's every week.

Don't know if this has been mentioned on here or elsewhere, but as predicted before this series even started- the first celeb to take to the floor at the start of the series would make the final. And it's happened with Matt. That's five series in a row.

SCD1- Natasha
SCD2- Julian
SCD3- Darren
SCD4- Matt
SCD5- Matt

So I would advise all those male celebs for SCD6 to beg to go first when the new series starts!

I think you're wrong to say it's not at all due to improved standards, and I don't think that the stats back up your assertion that 10's are appearing earlier. Yes, there were a lot of 10's this week, but that was after an extra couple of weeks' practice compared with the first series. And I think the standards have improved overall.

I see your point, but to me it gets boring when tens are handed out like sweets. There has been very little worth a ten so far in my opinion, certainly most of the dances getting them have not been better than dances getting eights and nines in series two.

I agree. Think they've perhaps gone a bit American in their approach this year! ie. on DWTS 10's are handed out very generously!

I think the reason Jill's jive scored 35 in series 2 was because she performed it in week 3 so it meant 10's weren't an option. It's also IMO how so many of the waltzes have scored well this year. In earlier series more people peformed the waltz in week 1 (all the women in series 2 and 3) whereas now it's only 3 of the men (and the older ones at that) who perform it in week 1. It does beg the question whether it's scored well because the celebs have improved or because higher scores are handed out later in the competition regardless.
