A Strictly Confession...

I couldn't think of an appropriate place to put this, so apologies for the new thread:

So, this afternoon I was out shopping with my friend on Princes Street (Edinburgh, to set the scene). As we walked happily along, we were approached by a pair of guys, who asked us if we watched Strictly Come Dancing. We replied in the affirmative. They asked if we would mind answering some questions to the camera. Slightly surprised, we agreed.

They began innocuously enough: What do you think of the show? Who are your favourites? We spoke for a minute, making sure to put the question in the answer as instructed ("Our favourites are Alesha and Matthew", etc). Then came the real point:

What do you think of Kenny and Ola?

We ansered (honestly) that we found his dancing entertaining, that we thought he was definitely improving over time, and that he seemed like a nice guy. They then asked us to hold a sign and tell people to vote for Kenny and Ola.

Reader, we did it.

I don't know what came over us-- faced with the camera, we couldn't seem to say no, that we didn't think that people should vote for them. We just said what they told us to, and then left, feeling rather...well, ashamed.

So, ladies and gentlemen, if on Saturday's show you see two girls, one of whom is clad in a black poloneck and looking distinctly uncomfortable, inciting you to "Keep Kenny Dancing!", please, please, do not listen to them.

Thank you.

Does anyone else have a Strictly confession to make?

OMG! I can't believe that they would do that! That's unbelievable! Well done for coming on here and telling us! If they do show you on the Sunday show - then its a scandal!

Hee hee - I can't wait to see this!

Oh, and my Strictly Confession is that if they're not too bad on Saturday I'm going to vote for them!

I shouldn't worry about it Ladies, I would say 95% of what is said on telly is only what people have been told to say. You don't often see people who speak for themselves on there...they don't seem to do much off the cuff anymore, very scripted imo.

THey probably didnt like the thought of a Scottish person supporting Alesha and Matt rather then Kenny and Ola.

Heh. I've always wanted to be at the centre of a scandal...

What amused me most was during our first take, when my friend said, "Keep Kenny Dancing...if you like him!" This amused them greatly as well...

Surprised in the middle of Edinburgh that they couldn`t find fans who were really supporting him !

Maybe they just liked the look of you and your friend allybee

Quite apart from the whole Kenny thing, I was mainly mortified because I had been to the gym that morning and, as such, was not exactly "camera-ready"...

Shocked - no stunned - that people would actually sacrifice their integrity for a few brief moments of camera time.

Err, ditto

(Although, in my defense, he'll have to have improved again, and I'll probably vote for M&A as well to make up for it - my voting ban has now officially ended )

Ally, upto now I have always read your posts with a hint of reverence, but it seems that the Blairist 'all things to all people' persona has reached even Edinburgh folk!

Kinda shoots down the "all of Scotland is voting for Kenny" theory, though

At least you knew that you were being filmed. I was once stopped by a BBC researcher (or so I thought) and was asked a few questions about a local news story... A bit contraversial at the time( about 5yrs ago) I thought nothing of it until I arrived in work the next day and several colleagues said that they`d seen me being interviewed on the local news. I was shocked as I had`t seen any camera and was not asked if I wanted to be filmed. Apparently they`d filmed me from about 30m. Anyway I made a formal complaint.......To their credit the BBC were very apologetic( including letters from management) In the end they offered me tickets to see a recording of Top Gear..(could`t believe their offer) If it happened again I`d kick up a fuss and drop a few hints about how I really enjoy SCD......and wait for the tickets to arrive.........I wont go into details but what I said was edited and I was misrepresented so I could have really kicked up a fuss......but hey I`am easy to bribe.

Hi allybee, it's been a while since we've spoken.

I shall look out for you Saturday night.

Good on you for confessing. Having seen poor Kenny's training tonight on ITT I am a bit worried for him.

Tbh, I'd be more bothered about appearing on TV infront of millions of viewers.

I know I probably shouldn't find that funny, but I do...

Will take your point and be sure not to listen to you
