DVD Player Dubbing problem.

Well--not so much a problem as a puzzle.
I have a fairly new Hyundai 3 in one recorder ( VHS/HDD/VHS).
I have discovered that if I dub a VHS clip direct to DVD-RW( which is the format for the recorder), finalise the disc and try to play it on another dvd player it is un-recognised.
If I dub the same VHS clip to HDD then on to DVD it plays on other players.
I assume by going to HDD first the coding must change, but can anyone else explain this. Thanks.

what you are trying to do is called ' on the fly '

try and copy to hard drive then dvd so mistakes dont happen as they have, its generally not much longer

DVD-RW comes in 2 formats.

The editable VR mode and the compatible VIDEO mode.

Ensure your recorder is not recording in VR mode.

It may not even support VR mode but if it does there may be a setting on the initial set up menu where you can tell the player what format to initialise -RW discs in when you put one in.

VR mode wont play on many other players.

VIDEO mode will.

But as Niall says you should record on HDD ,ensure everything is correct then dub over.

But once again ,if you dub to -RW in VR you will have the same problem.

Check the format.

Sorry- I omitted, for brevity, to say that my Hyundai had VR and video modes. I believe I did the first vhs to dvd in VR. Today I read in the manual they would only be playable in VR compatible players so did them in Video mode in case that was the problem , but got the same result.
As you say putting them to HDD first seems to solve the problem.
The video clip was only a family outing done on a camcorder, so wasn't trying to beat the system!! if that is what 'on the fly' means.
Just re-read my original post and it should have obviously read 'VHS/HDD/DVD' and not VHS/HDD/VHS
Anyway thanks to you both for advice and explanation.
