URGENT! 4th Gen iPod not recognised by PC!

Hi everyone!

I'm in a state of shock!

My trusty 4th Gen iPod is not being recognised by my PC! I think I have iTunes 7.5.

The iPod plays fine. I've reset it, put it in disk mode, done both of these while it's in the dock and out, occasionally the PC recognises it, but not iTunes.

I think last time this happened, I was told to make some sort of programme with the icon being a cog on teh desktop? Any ideas?!

What do I do?!!!

Thanks for any help in advance!

Go to Start -> Run and in box type services.msc and press 'OK'.

Scroll down to 'iPod Service' and ensure status says 'Started', if not start it by double clicking it and pressing 'Start'

Also go to Start -> Run and type regedit and 'OK' and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and ensure there is an entry for 'iTunesHelper' on the list on the right.

Do I need the iPod in the dock? Will it then be recognised by iTunes?

Reset it first. Or try another USB port.

Another thing to do is connect up the iPOD and fire up iTunes then select the menu item Help -> Run Diagnostics...

Select iPOD diagnostics and press next.

Select all the diagonostic text and press Ctrl-C and press Ctrl-V to paste the results into a reply here
