Connecting Playstation 3 / PS3 to LCD / TFT Monitor
I'm wondering if anybody can help advise with the following.
I'm planning to get my son an LCD screen for Christmas so that he can connect his Playstation 3 to it. I know I could get an LCD TV with a HDMI port, but he really doesn't need the TV art and in any event it would be nice if he could share the one screen between his PS3 and his PC. I tried connecting the PS3 to an LG TFT monitor that I have, using a HDMI to DVI cable, but kept getting a message that the "signal was out of range" Can anybody help with / suggest the following: (1) Is it possible to connect a PS3 to a monitor using teh DVI input on the monitor? If so, how can I do it? e.g. do I need a special cable or adaptor? (2) If I have to go via a HDMI - HDMI route, will this work on any monitor that has a HDMI input? (3) If I have to go route (2), can anybody recommend a good 20" - 23" widescreen TFT/LCD monitor that would work? and finally (4) If a normal monitor won't work, what would be a good 20" - 23" TV that would be good? Sorry for the multitude of questions. Many thanks in advance for your help. |

The Monitors DVI port needs to be HDCP complient. These look good. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132112 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...s)%3D22.22.htm http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...elevisions.htm |

You need to ensure a computer monitor will sync down low enough, the vast majority won't!.

What do I need to look for in terms of sync capability?

The monitor doesn't have to sync down to 652i25. The PS3 can be set to output 1080p for everything except some games which run at 720p. Full 1080x1920 monitors seem hard to come by, as are ones with HDMI and DVI. Most seem to have DVI + Dsub (for analog VGA) only.

Re: this thread
I bought a 19ins 16:9 widescreen Goodmans LCD TV after my 14 ins CRT model gave up the ghost, & found out that it has a VGA input (15 Pin D sub), and as such, could be used as a PC Monitor (max resolution 1024x768 at 75Hz), as well as component & HDMI inputs.... On the menu, VGA's input 5, & HDMI's input 6.... (Incedentally, when I was running a PS/2 via component it displayed the legend 576i/50 which is standard PAL resolution) I think Argos are selling the 23ins version of this, but I'm not sure.... |
