Im trying to connect my AV Amp - Denon 3805 to my 32" Hisense Firstline FS3201MHI LCD TV via the RGB connectors - 3x RCA Phono to 3 x Phono...from the AV RGB out to the YPbPr RGB Phono input but im getting a real bad picture, almost fuzzy...and loses sync every few minutes??

I tried to connect from the amp to the VGA in in the TV with nothing (no sync)

also tried to connect the amp via the RGB to an Acer 19" Monitor (LCD) via the VGA with nothing at all??

Could the amp be faulty on the RGB out? everything else on the AMP works ok??

Thanks for any help!

If it's RGB out from the amp, then you need to connect it to the SCART socket on the TV - not the Component sockets, they are completely different things.

RGB as well isn't 'RGB' it's 'RGB+Sync' - four connections required.

I have a Denon 2805, I assume they're pretty much the same. If so, there is no RGB output. What you're looking at is component video, i.e. YPbPr. I think you're probably connecting to the right sockets (3 phono) but calling them something else. Conecting these Amp sockets to either a VGA socket or SCART socket on something else won't work, unless the TV accepts component over SCART.

First of all, make sure you are indeed connecting via the right set of 3 phono sockets - you'll also find that composite video comes over 3 phonos, yellow for video and red/white for stereo audio. What you need is the set of 3 sockets that are probably coloured Red, Green and Blue. I suspect you are indeed doing this on the TV correctly as you called it RGB and YPbPr! But check what you're connecting to on the Amp. You called it AV RGB which rings warning bells - AV usually means composite video.

Sorry...but I should have stuck with 'component' Video when i posted.

Yep, i am using the right sockets and the right Leads but no Joy?

Both the Amp and the TV are Component - YPbPr, i said RGB meaning the coloured leads rather than Scart RGB which i did actually think was the same??

I dont use any YPbPr inputs on the AMP only a combination of Composite and S-Video inputs from various equipment...and read in the manual that there is a built in upscaler so i would get a better picture..... this seems true with what picture i saw...until it goes out of sync...and is fuzzy in a way it looks like interference

What IS wierd is that when i play a DVD through the AMP to the TV using YPbPr the picture is perfect but still goes in and out of sync every now and then...but when viewing SKY i get the fuzzy picture as well??

I once tried a 10mtr lead and got a perfect picture from sky but it still went out of sync...could it be the leads im using????

Could i be right on the edge of the power from the amp so it needs a boost?? (0.7V)?

Cheers again for any help!

.....im also tempted to solder phono's onto 3 lengths of 75ohm coax using gold Phono's and lo loss coax to see if that helps??!

I doubt different leads would help?, the amp is actually PAL decoding and upscaling if you're only feeding it composite and S-Video - which I would have thought isn't helping anything?.

Did you say your DVD has Component out?, and you still get the sync problem when you connect it to the Component INPUT of the amp?.

If so, try connecting the DVD directly to the Component input of the TV - if it's OK then, the amp is faulty, if it's not OK then the TV is faulty.

No sorry, i dont have any other Component output on any other piece of equipment so i cant test it.

Mad that only the YPbPr input connection on the TV doesnt work but all the other connections do - SCART, DVI & VGA?

Even more and more evidence is pointing towards the Amp

The manual states that everything is routed out correctly to all outs - YPbPr, S-Video and Composite with upscaling, so all should work...and especially with an amp so expensive!

I got it second hand anyway, it works in every other aspect apart from this...so i cant moan for what i got it for i suppose but would have been great to have made the most of my LCD TV

Thanks for all the help... i think i have ran out of options and can point to the Amp.

Well you don't have any HD source anyway, so the only advantage of using Component is if your amps upscaler is better than your TV's?.

But as you're only feeding Composite or S-Video to the amp, you're already losing much of the quality - connecting a DVD or FreeView box (or Sky) directly to the TV via RGB SCART will probably be better anyway.
