Where do I put my sub woofer

or centre speaker for that matter

- just bought a house that had 4 speakers fitted into the lounge. Have now bought some new starter kit with a Yamaha Amp, and a mordent short centre and sub woofer.

Obviously the centre speaker needs to go centrally - but can the Sub be completely hidden in a cupboard in the corner of the room (the cupboard has a lattice front)? Or does it need to be exposed?

Also I seem to be a cable or so short, what do i need to connect the amp to my AV sources?

Sorry if these are very dumb questions, im new to all this

As the bass is non-directional, the sub-woofer can indeed be hidden anywhere in the room you see fit.

But not in a cupboard for sure.

And not anywhere enclosed otherwise the bass will bounce off the walls and be very boomy.

You can put it anywhere but not so thats its enclosed.

If you have a downward facing sub you could stick it under a nest of tables but dont hide it completely as the sound still needs to get out

Connections: although most amps allow for it I dont like to feed video through the amp .There's no need and direct connection to the tv or a scart daisy chain will be better.

Each device needs to be connected and if you want Dolby Digital sound from dvd player/recorder or Sky+ or games console you need a digital audio lead.
Check you have enough digital connections on the back of the amp.

Non 5.1 gear can be connected by a simple phono lead - with one connector for left and one for right.

also leave the sub 1 foot clear off anything that surrounds(walls, furniture etc)
