Is it just me or does anyone else think the voting for this is wrong?

You can vote all week so for all we know most of the votes that get people such as Kate through might be from a Wednesday! How can it be a dancing compertition if you're voting before you've seen them!

IMO the judges should have 75% of the total score, and the public 25% With it being 50/50 theres far more chance of people with less dancing talent getting through, when couples such as Gabby and Penny were voted off.

Is it my imagination, or did the first couple of weeks only have voting on the night? And Kate survived that...

re: judges 75% - hmmm... problems being 1) judges are not infallible and sometimes have favourites, and have been known to deliberately or accidentally under-or-overmark and 2) what the Beeb wants is people watching the programme, and feeling that they didn't have much say might put people off.

Its a question I would like to see discussed on ITT, but I doubt the BBC would want it debated. Imo the whole success of SCD is due to the celebs, judges and public taking the competition seriously and the winner being the best dancer. I only vote on Sat for the best dancer after all the dances have been completed. I don't know what percentage vote during the week because they have a fav. I hope not too many, but I doubt the Beeb would ever release those voting figures.

...but don't agree with this. If the judges had the majority vote the public would feel there is hardly any point in them voting. No doubt there would also be more outrage on this forum about judges saving their favourites and the like.

Giving the judges vote more importance whilst leaving the ultimate eviction decision in the public's hands might possibly work better if, as suggested elsewhere, the voting takes on a Big Brother format (i.e. the public vote for who to evict (or save) from the botttom two as ranked by the judges).

I think it should be done like XF with the judges votes on the dance off. If its 2-2 then the one that Len likes stays, however in XF it then goes to public vote.

Possibly - I'm convinced the dance-off thing is having the opposite effect to that expected (at least by the judges) in this respect, in that people aren't just scared their faves will be bottom, but have to worry about 2nd from bottom also - and they don't trust the judges to always get it right/not play favourites when it comes to the dance off. But I think that the judges having 75% might just create too much resentment.

I'd be quite interested to see how the voting faired if we weren't told the judges' scores until after the 'phone lines closed... I'm not suggesting they should change to it, I just think we'd get very different results overall.

^ I expect you're right, it may depend on whether we got the judges comments, too, though. I think even just not having the comments might sometimes changed the results - when the judges use nasty metaphors I'm sure there's a part of most people (even if they wouldn't vote because of it) that says "ouch, what a nasty thing to say" and which will sometimes make people pick up the phone where "please vote for us, we got bad marks" might not on its own.

If that makes the slightest sense....

What I find odd, especially looking at the popularity polls on this site, is that its the week following a good or bad perfomance changes the result so in effect your voting for their last performance and not their next.

For example, Gethin did a fabulous routine last week and his popularity soared whereas Matt who did a good jive a few weeks ago which saw him near the top of the poll has now fallen back down.

Hope I`m explaining myself enough.

Which leads me to think it would be better if they`re leaving the lines open all week, not to annouce the public vote until saturday following the previous week. Then start again after the saturday nights performance for the following week.

It would mean a couple learning a new routine but not getting to dance it though because there were eliminated at the begining of the night.

Yes, bang on - if people are in any way inclined to vote for the underdog, the nasty comments are likely to make them go for it.

Bit of a lose lose situation isnt it? We don't want the judges being harsh to stop really bad dancers being kept in too long with the sympathy vote, but if the judges don't comment it takes out most of the compertition!

The results should be returned to Saturday though. That IS infuriating! Why not just stick an extra ITT on a sunday so we can have our fix? :P

giving the public 50% of the votes has been a master stroke, shame "they" decided to change it.

Gives the show huge unpredicability and makes it more entertaining. [ am wondering if the huge vote Kate is getting is an anti the other female celebs?]

I am VERY UNHAPPY judges will choose who goes to the final.

The judges choosing who goes to the final has its pros and cons....
at least there will be good dancers there but what happened to the public saying who THEY want. They could lose viewers for that.
