Perhaps the injury has been diplomatically played up. There was a similar case on the German franchise of the SCD format.
A retired female politician (!!) was as hopeless as Kate but getting sackfuls of votes every week. The smiles of the other pro dancers during the results were of the cocktail-stick-in-mouth kind.

In about week 5 or 6 her doctor diagnosed a nervous breakdown and sent her off to a clinic.

Odd that by the end of the next week she was back in circulation.

Kate is a 39-year-old non-sportswoman who has never pretended to be a natural dancer. Nor has Kenny who could not coordinate with the cha cha rhythm, while John's attempt at tango resulted in a display for all to see. None of the tail-enders expect to match Alesha or Kelly or Matt, and all of them expect to go in turn.

Apparently these beginners and their partners are having the time of their lives, and by the rules of the event will stay for as long as the phone voting jury have them stay, a condition of the event agreed from the beginning. Those posters who take it upon themselves to tell other voters what to do (not referring to gkmacca), who choose to oppose the jury system, can say so.

Millions who have never danced are now dipping their toes on the dance floor, encouraged by SCD. I have seen plenty of social dancers before, showing a huge spread of musical and dance aptitudes. If they pay the entrance fee, and they enjoy themselves, make friends and come back, then why not? The large numbers of them who put up grotesque displays will not be laughed at nor torn to ribbons, nor should they. Those who watch and post spine-chilling personal abuse (not referring to gkmacca) are advised to put themselves to the test. Afterwards they might post with more understanding and credibility.

Fair enough, but sympathy shouldn't distort judgment. I quite agree about the proper manner whereby it is expressed, but I would also defend the right of those who know the technique but lack the quality to make an informed judgement. I don't like abusive attacks, but I've no time either for the 'do better yourself or shut up' brigade. (Or, worse still, Dennis Taylor and his ludicrous 'Beat me at snooker or give me generous marks at dancing' gambit!)

gkmacca - handshake, at last we have reached agreement.

If two pro dance couples compete for the World Championship, most of the audience cannot hope to equal either couple or to understand the technicalities involved. I would not oppose the paying customers forming personal assessments and criticisms of world champions as they see fit.

Believe me down at the local palais some good dancers make awful companions, and some moderate dancers have the most delightful personalities. I do not know Kate at first hand, but Anton adores her, and Erin obviously likes Kate. The audience chose intuitively, right or wrong.

No doubt many fault Kate legitimately on her dance limitations. But I suggest there are some school bullies who have discovered Kate is the smallest girl in class and safe to terrorise.

Yes, there is that element, but I hope I never resorted to it. I was very bored of her dancing and lack of improvement, but I always thought she was a nice lady and I like her presenting (not on GMTV but when she did that BBC quiz thing.)

By 'not very well' I mean I dont know them very well (friend of a friend) , not that the person in question is 'not very well' although if the person in question was 'not very well' that might explain why I've had no response

GMTV gets around 1 million viewers per morning, roughly the same as BBC Breakfast.

'Reach' is a very different claim, and one that is easily and liberally exaggerated for effect.

My goodness am I glad I went to bed after Plan D when I did. Catching up on what I missed. Thought that at one point the bouncers were going to be needed to calm people down.

I haven't watched GMTV for years. I used to have it on every morning while getting ready for work but they drove me mad with early morning hysterics - the "Elf with the Wealth" and the "Bunny with the Money" I think it was called. There was a blonde woman who used to hammer on people's doors at about 6am screaming questions at them so they could win some money. That time in the morning I am definitely not up for anyone screaming - if she'd ever knocked on my door I'd have decked her!

So I switched over to Breakfast with a huge sigh of relief. And no, I had never heard of Kate Garraway before SCD but then many of these "celebs" I've never heard of if I don't follow whatever it is they do.

I used to watch GMTV years ago too... the lack of news and all the fashion items and soap star interviews drove me nuts.... so I turned to the BBC who have news and interviews with a complete mix of people... then Series 1 of Strictly happened... got addicted to watching Natasha... then a certain Ballroom Bill... now it's a case of 'GMTV? What's that? Does it even happen on a morning?'
