When I switch my car engine off, my stereo resets itself - ie: I lose all programmed radio channels and volume controls set back etc

It must be connected to a wire thats only live with the ignition.

You need to alter the wiring to connect it to a permanent live by the sounds of it.

What your radio is lacking is a KAM or keep alive memory, This stores the information on radio channels and volume settings etc. If you connected your stereo using the now standard ISO connectors the fault more than likely lies with the cars wiring. First thing I would check is the main fuse for the radio in the car as it must have been permanently live at some point for the Factory fit unit to work.
