The T810 single record v4.9 is included as part of the 'twin record' software download - you might have to search back a bit for it in this forum. Alternatively, it can be found at h**p://www.vwlowen.co.uk/files/index1.php, where it goes under the name 'pvr80.zip'
Obviously the file also includes the 'twin record v1.0' software if you want to try that.

Can I just ask, as I am a bit behind with the Vestels...

If I were to acquire a cheap T810, how good is this twin record firmware?

I'm waiting for the dust to settle on Freeview Playback ideally before buying one of the FP boxes, but I know someone who wants shut of their T810 (buying Sky+) and if it's cheap enough...

(1) Slow-to-populate EPG
When I upgraded mine I deleted all the channels I wasn't bothered about, but the EPG still took a long time to populate. It helped if I selected the channel I wanted info on, and then selected Guide. Since then I've gone thru the channels again and retained only 16 TV channels plus BBCi, 301/2/3 etc, no radio (have that on DAB and T816) and now the EPG fills up almost instantly.

(2) Skippy recordings
I still get a few mini-skips here and there. Maybe if you want a flawless recording of a particular programme you shouldn't record anything else at the same time... but I don't know the answer to this one.

Those are the only 2 issues I can think of just now, I don't get freezes and the functions are better than on my Evesham T816 (where REW, stop-play, and 'select channel from Guide' are unsatisfactory for me).

Don't forget, the twin-record software comes with single-record v4.9, you can always flash back to that if you're not happy. I wouldn't change back.

Did you particularly want a T810? The current hardware is T816 which has been on sale since about August this year. The T816 is dual record whereas the T810 is only watch one/record one unless some un-official software is installed. The T816 has Freeview Playback Accurate Recording functionality which works very well most of the time. I find that feature very convenient. The slight downside is that this mode is actioned by default. If you want to add padding you can do this but you have to manually change the recording type from "Event" to "Time" to add padding. This causes the programme title to be lost from the recordings Library. The T816 is probably more buggy than the T810 but nothing too serious IMO. The main problems are very short skips (not visible but can usually be heard as a few milliseconds sound loss) in live viewing and playback. Occasionally the live picture and sound will freeze but this can be cleared with a channel change. The user interface is very comprehensive and user friendly IMO.

I'd prefer a FP-enabled box, but it's just that I *think* I can get a T810 for about £40 second-hand -- which is tempting.

If it does dual-record reasonably well (as it appears that it does when hacked), I could get one now then buy a FP box in a few months and move the '810 to the bedroom.

Ah, right. I'd forgotten your earlier post where you explained that. I think one of the problems with the un-official T810 software is that due to memory limitations (only 32MB instead of 64MB on the T816) this restricts EPG storage.
