In Camilla and Gethins routine Camilla's feet come off the floor for a moment two - accidently!

There is a rule in Ballroom that has something to do with a beat...? I've heard it talked about on DWTS - if there is an unintentional lift - i.e. feet come off for a flitting nano second then its okay? Not sure though!

You know, I have a feeling I have heard something similar. Not sure though... may be talking total rubbish!

I think it must be harder to penalise a very brief, accidental lift anyway - just because it's more difficult to spot!!

Whereas doing an extra lift in a routine is obvious to all (cf Kelly and Brendan, Carol and Matthew).

Can somebody remind me of L&D's scores?

I thought it was a great job they did in the foxtrot, Letitia looked suitably stately and gracious (as only us 40 somethings and over can do haha!).

Thanks. So in other words, two judges either did not see an error and felt the dance worth a 9, or did see it and would have otherwise given a 10?

Probably the first. The judges seem to favour some more than others, Tish & Darren being the ones they don't

I know it was accidental, i was kind of emphasising the point that unintentional lifts were not being penalised.

I heard it was that if feet didn't go above waist height and was less than 4 beats, it was ok....but that doesn't fit in with some of the lifts that have been penalised - Carol for example.

Carol (if you mean the one I think you do) was penalised because their lift was choreographed into the dance. Matt didn't think it was a lift, as proffessionally its a 'throw' - however, Craig claimed if you choreography both feet off the floor its a lift.

I can see both instances where both feet may/were off the ground in Leticia and Gethin's dance. Both seemed unintentional and tiny faults. I agree that Leticia's may have been her maneouvering herself into her last move and therefore she was not technically lifted by Darren.

From the judges point of view, I would expect them to heavily penalise a choreographic decision to break the rules.

On unintentional lifts, as as judge I would use my discretion: if I decided that it was unlikely that the celebrity could have completed the move without assistance, I would make an adjustment to my score.

If however, I made the decision that it was a minor error, I would make a substantially smaller adjustment.

An outsider would find it very hard to see the adjustment because I would be working within my mental quarter-point scoring. (for example: if the dance was nearer a 8 than a 7, but the unintentional lift may make me give a score of 7, but I could still give an 8).

As a judge (in a completely different sport), I expect people who come under me to accept my experience, knowledge and JUDGEment.
