Just watched Ian on Breakfast, didnt know it was going to be on, caught it by accident.
Have looked at the u tube videos as well.
Can imagine that Ian was fairly safe from bullying, as he said him being so tall, boy dancers do get bullied because it is not considered a manly sport. However dancers have to work damned hard to be successful. My eldest son is a successful ice dancer and when he was at school he was also a bit too big to be bullied, not as tall as Ian but still a head above most of his classmates.
Any thoughts about having a go at him were nipped in the bud by his year tutor when he was Junior Champion and she played his training video to them all in his year group. She said afterwards you could have heard a pin drop everyone of the group eyes fixed on the screen and then the attitude was respect. Teachers were amazed too the amount he put into the dancing, plus his school work plus representing his school at county level in throwing the discus. Imagine Ian was the same.
I guess a lot of it is down to ignorance towards people are doing something individual and different.
Well done Ian and Penny!
