0800 reverse nuisance calls
I'd never heard of this service till this weekend, when in the space of 10 minutes I recieved 3 calls asking to accept a call.
BT nuisance calls seemed aware this was issue nad said it was BT but another commercial company and in affect needed to pay not to recieve a 'service' I hadn't requested. On checking the 0800 Reverse website it states it has an agreement with BT, I assume that's a commercial contract. Therefore BT make money from users of the service and those who don't wish to have the 'service'. The cost of accepting one of these calls is £3.48p plus a call charge of 50p a minute. There was no indication of this when asked to accept a reverse call. I was told the service is automated, so how can the service moniter a caller has given a 'name' as required by the terms and conditions. None of the calls I recieved gave a name (I had more the following day). Amazingly in the Terms & Conditions if a person accepts one of these calls that person is responsible for what the caller says, even if it is an abusive call. What with cold callers, silent calls you would have thought how this service could be misused. At least there should be a free 0800 number available to cancel this service. |

Further to the above I see the company was in January 2007 found to have breached the code of the Advertising Standards Authority.
Although BT distance themselves from the company it is BT's pricing Tarriff the 0800 website links to and it is BT who collect the money for accepting and cancelling the service. http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/adjudicati..._ADJ_42109.htm |

Seems like yet another exploitation that government don't care about.
Most people will accept a reverse charges call as they believe it's an emergency and someone they know needs to talk to them. The "free market" is all that seems to matter nowadays, even if the service is exploiting our fears. |

You can opt out of this service by contacting 0800 Reverse and telling them that you have no wish to receive their calls. I did this some 2 years ago after being similarly pestered. They tried to make it as awkward as possible to opt out but I eventually did, and have had no calls from this company since.
The trouble is any prat can use their service for malicious reasons and leave you to foot the bill, so everyone should opt out immediately. |

I just tried 0800reversing to a number i ported away from BT a short while ago - and it comes through asking if i want to accept the call. The number is now on a VoIP platform - wonder who would get the bill if i did accept the call!

This is an awful, hugely overpriced service.

You can permanently stop such calls to your number by sending an email to customerservice@0800reverse.co.uk. I used the wording: Quote:
Call Barring They replied by email within a few minutes.
I choose not to receive 0800 Reverse services as defined in section 4 ‘Range Of Services’ and request that you block my number (01xxx XXXXXX) from receiving such calls. Please acknowledge receipt hereof. |

If you try it with a cable number or a local number originally set-up for VoIP it's not possible. |
