although I have change the connection leads a dozen times thought I would give it one last try I switched everything off discarded £50 scart leads and used cheap ones all back working again, even switching automatically to hdmi when swtching dvd on never done that before, but I still cant see any improvement in picture between hdmi upscaled ,RGB,svideo or component.

There shoudn't be any real difference between HDMI, Component, or RGB SCART (unless you have an HD source?) - but S-Video should be considerably poorer.

thanks, then why bother to have an upscaler to 1080i? is it just a gimmick. to con us into thinking we're getting something we're not, last year I bought hd ready tv with the view to getting sky hd just waiting for a few more hd channels, I thought the upscaler might improve sd.

It's just a gimmick - your TV already includes an upscaler anyway. The only time it might help is if you have a really cheap crappy TV, with a very poor upscaler - in that case the external upscaler can make a decent imrprovement.

But with any decent TV the upscaler is as good, or better, than the external one.

Loads of people are buying upscaling DVD players and thinking they are getting HD - even Bose are claiming their upscaling DVD player gives true HD off normal DVD's - but Bose aren't known for their advertising accuracy!

yes, like when I bought this tv it was over a £1000 within 2 months they were half that, now we're told true hd is 1080p, I have got a good picture as long as no one moves in front of the camera or the camera doesnt move.
