Led Zeppelin's classic Stairway To Heaven in the charts!
Fans of older rock music will be happy to know Led Zeppelin's classic Stairway To Heaven is in the UK top 40 singles chart at number 37. From EveryHit.com: Quote:
"A track from the Led Zeppelin IV album (1973). Never previously released as a single but charted on this occasion as the Led Zeppelin back catalogue was released to the download sites."
It's taken a mere 24 years to get the song in the charts!Led Zeppelin's only other hit was Whole Lotta Love. |

Well it's more the fact it's got into the charts after all this time. It's such a classic song, deserving of number one. It's nice to hear it in the charts.

Wasn't Led Zep IV released in 1971?

Yes 1971 - late in the year - I remember getting it.
Just had a look on Every Hit - it charted in November 1971. |

This is brilliant. I love how the inclusion of download sales makes this possible.

I wonder if Westlife, Boyzone, Britney, Leona etc etc will be able to repeat the feat in 26 years time.
I think not probably, most of the music of recent years is forgotten as soon as the TV show that promoted it is finished. Led Zep and others like them had nothing other than John Peel and touring to help promote them, oh and a huge dose of musicianship.
