I have a Philips DVDR 3480 recorder that can play DIVX and has a USB port.

This has been going on for weeks and it's just happened...

It's sitting there on standby, then I hear a whirl and it's turned itself on, then a few seconds later goes back into standby.

Every night for the past few weeks it does this rather strange thing.

Anyone else got the same model??

Don't know about Philips?, but a number of Sony models have a software update that cures this.
