LG 42PX3RV - Repair / Replace
In a staff room at work, we have a LG 42PX3RV Plasma - or should I say, had. Since purchase, this set has been out of action three times in total - twice during the course of the warranty it had a replacement PCB, and it failed again once out of warranty. To be honest, its been out of play for a good number of weeks now, as we have had neither the time nor the inclination to do anything with it - however the time has come to do something about it.
Its symptoms appeared to be sound and no picture, until we got it off the wall and into a darkened office - and discovered that there is a very very dim picture there, which is also a very noisy picture (as though it had a duff signal). I have taken a photo HERE which shows the face of a child that was on This Morning (the other shadow you can see is me taking the photo). Having done a bit of Googling, I have found a number of instances of claims of knackered PCB's with this model, which is making me question whether it is even worth venturing any further with (assuming that it is the board that needs replaced again). Can anyone advise what might be the problem with this set? And whether the best course of action is to try and get it repaired, or send it to be crushed and buy something newer/better/more reliable? Thanks in advance |
