These are pretty good as well, you find them at the Good Food Show and a lot of the other food shows and markets. They also run the wonderfully named Sausage Club.

Sorry, but the big guys are a complete waste of time. Crombies in Edinburgh is the UK sausage champion.

The Hog & Wild Thyme are brilliant, as are the Pork & Whisky!

Nothing at all beats the sausages from our butchers shop.

I read somewhere that just about all of the main Premium suasages brands are made at one specialist plant in Hull. Was it Savages?

Don't eat sausages ... unless you know the source.

Ones made by a local butcher who understands butchery will be fine.

Supermarket sausages are for the proletariat and are priced accordingly. The cheaper they are the worse they will be.

If you're in or near Leeds, try the pork and ale sausages from Wilsons of Crossgates. Best sausages I've ever tasted. I also recommend Ripley Castle's venison, wild mushroom and cranberry sausages. Pricey but very nice. Lishmanns of Ilkley also do a nice porker.

Anyone who lives in or near Cetral London should try Biggles on Marylebone Lane.

They do hot dogs at lunchtime too (about £3) for anyone who wants to try one first.

No need to deprive yourself! I can heartily recommend Redwood's Lincolnshire style sausages, Holland & Barrett stock them and they are delicious, and meat-free

Yep - Tesco's Finest Pork and Bramley Apple are the best pork and apple sausages I've tasted and that *includes* Simply Sausages.

Not all of them. The M&S bangers I use have the name of the farmer and a photograph of him on the front.

All these premium brand sausages sound really nice, but with limited distribution deals it seems like no-one will be able to try them all without a lot of effort.

I find the best sausages are those you buy in good butchers' shops or at farmers' markets.

M&S are the only supermarket sausages I'd buy otherwise.

Why only M&S?

Do they have a monopoly on super pigs or something

I'm glad to say that the Tesco Finest "Pork and Bramley Apple Sausages" (as I recommended above) have won a major sausage award.

Try em!

Tesco's 'Finest' range here, too. I can't abide dog-shit sausages.... ...I'd rather have vaginal intercourse than eat cheap sausages

For supermarket sausages I look to either Paul Rankin or Richard Woodall ones.
