Being the dutiful son that I am, I recently bought a nice old widescreen CRT and swapped it for my mum's old Mitsubishi, until I can save up for something decent. (She watches far more television than I do anyway)
The Mitsubishi is fine - even though I haven't really heard of them in relation to TVs, it actually seems like a decent set.
The only problem is that the picture isn't scanning horizontally correctly - the ends of the picture get cut off. It's not just the normal truncating of the picture from watching widescreen programmes on a non- widescreen set - for example, when changing the Virgin Media Channels, the channel number in the top left is mostly cut off, similarly when I was watching Aldershot v Grays on Setanta last night the match time was also illegible.
I think the repair-man who fixed her TV a long time ago may have adjusted the set's geometry incorrectly (I think that's the correct term). I was there at the time and I recall him punching odd sequences into the remote and fiddling with the picture. The strange thing is, that if I connect via the AV2 scart, the problem almost disappears - however there's no sound when I do this.
I manged to find a service manual on the net, but the meaning of all the values you can change when adjusting the geometry wasn't clear to me.
All I want to do is to squeeze the picture, so that it's a bit thinner. Can anyone give me an idea of what to do? It's not worth paying a minimum of £25.00 to get an engineer to look at it. The picture is watchable, but it would be nice to fix this irritating problem.
