Iphone and t-mobile web-n-walk

Im wanting an iphone but the o2 tarriff sucks, I am wondering if my t-mobile sim would work in an unlocked model. would web n walk work.

Not currently, as only O2 sim support is possible. Even when it is eventually hacked you'll only get GPRS, as Edge is not supported on t-mobile. Best stick with O2's official excellent value tariffs.

I'm I missing something here
If you get the iPhone it has to come from O2 which you have to sign up to a O2 tariff for 12-18 months, so why would you then want to put another sim card in there and pay for two?

I wonder how extensive it is. My phone has never picked up edge in the UK.

£35/month really is excellent for unlimited data+WiFi and easily as good as any other providers tariffs. I would have already (after 2 weeks) spent £75+ on my old tariff. Just because it doesn't suit you doesn't make it a bad tariff, perhaps you are not the target market?

there is very little edge support in the uk. simply because we have 3G.

Tmobile's Flext 35 with WnW Pro easily wipes the floor with anything o2 can come up with. I didn't say your tariff was bad - but calling it 'excellent value' certainly gave me a warm chuckle on a cold night.

You don't sign up to a contract when you buy the handset, so you just need to unlock it and stick you own SIM in.

Ok, perhaps 'Excellent' value WAS a bit too much Anyway, we agree on 'ok' value, although I too prefer t-mobile to be honest.

I have to take issue with that. I have been using an iPhone with both Orange and O2 for the last few months and the Edge support in my experience has been almost universal. I was worried about moving to O2 two weeks ago when I upgraded to an official iPhone because the word was that their Edge support is iffy. However, it has been nothing short of excellent for me. I travel a lot around the country and I have rarely not seen an Edge signal. As one example I drove on Thursday from Oxfordshire to Leeds. I did not see a loss of an Edge signal once, and that included a 2 hour diversion through Derbyshire because the M1 was congested. And as for the old chestnut of Edge vs 3G, again in my experience I can barely detect the difference. Quite often my browser on the iPhone feels snappier via Edge than it does sometimes on WiFi. Indeed I have stopped bothering to log in to WiFi hotspots such as BTOpenzone where I have free minutes since I can't be bothered as I can achieve equally well what I want with Edge. The exception to that is if I happen to be in a Cloud hotspot since the iPhone logs on automatically. I use the internet very very frequently now on the move, whereas I used to have a 3G phone (an SPV M3100) which I never used once in anger on the internet.

Who cares that 3G is big here (and even bigger in Japan - in fact it's the only network type they use) - as far as Apple is concerned, it's only America (where 3G is practically unheard of) that counts.

And for that reason alone I won't be touching it.

I'm patriotic and anti-american in equal measurements - a gadget which is pig-headedly aimed at America only is going to get my back up, especially when it certainly is not head and shoulders above everything else. My personal phone is the N95 and my work phone is the Vario 2 - either suit me much better than the iPhone ever could. Sure it look pretty but as for functionality, it soon wears off. It's basically the Kate Moss of phones - great to look at but otherwise pointless.

I do not buy a phone because it looks pretty, my iPhone happens to be shrouded in an ugly silicon jacket, I couldn't care less what it looks like. I bought it because it is functional. It is more functional than any phone I have ever had before (including state of the art 3G phones). By functional I don't mean a long list of technical features, but features that are actually useful and very very usable. Whether it's the function of phone, browser, music player, email, SMS or photo viewing, every feature on the iPhone is implemented in an innovative elegant fashion that results in improved productivity for the user. I would gladly challenge any N95 user in a race to complete the following functions -

1. Find a contact and dial the number
2. Go to a url in an email
3. Browse the web for some information
4. Send a long text message
5. Download the last five episodes of a podcast
6. Find a photo from 500 in a photo library without knowing it's name

I've not even included weather, stocks or Youtube (which are all functions I use) because that would be unfair on the N95 as the iPhone has those functions built right in to the home screen.

If that isn't functionality, then I don't know what is.

OK the iPhone doesn't do video, MMS, or GPS. The first two of those I never do with a phone, the last is admittedly one advantage of the N95 although with it's small screen I question the usefulness of GPS on it. I am happy in the meantime to wait for iPhone 3rd party apps and have a separate keyfob GPS.

I'm fairly sure I'd take you you on in such a race with my N95 in most of those (especially with browsing the web - my N95 has HSDPA giving me speeds of around 1mb - your iPhone has the rather flatulent EDGE).

However I KNOW I'd take you on with all of those with my Vario 2.

Now this is laughable. I just tried this myself. The ONLY one I couldn't beat the iPhone on (using my N95) was number 5. My Pearl was even faster than the N95 on points 1, 2 &4.

I have about 800 contacts in my contacts database. Please tell me what key sequence on the N95 is quicker than two taps and one flick to get to any arbitrary name (and one of those taps is to select the contacts list).

Ok, press contacts.
Tap the key with the first letter of the contacts name on it.
Tap the key with the second letter of the contacts name on it.
3 taps, no scrolling.
Now seeing as fast, intuitive access to your massive list of contacts is vital are you going to be buying a Blackberry seeing as it does it more efficiently than your iPhone?
