It would be nice if the broadcasters had a standard way to include the Series and Episode in the synopsis, as well as the (sometimes brief) desription.
However this is not necessary for Freeview Playback - Series Recording to work, as that data is included, just hidden .
Of course it wouldn't mean anything to us, "Friends, series 1" would have a totally arbitrary code attached depending on the pool of available codes at the time.

Actually that's not how broadcasters tend to do series links it'll be "afternoon Friends on e4" or such like (with a code that is unintelligable). "Friends Series 1 epsiode 1" will also have a code to deal with clashes etc...

Going back to the OP, ie. The Over the Air update.

Can anybody confirm that the Over the Air (Final) update override the v.20 manual update.

If the firmware transmitted OTA has a version greater than the firmware on your box... it will be updated.

As far as we know the firmware coming in Jan OTA will have a greater version number than 1.00.20 most probably 1.00.21.

So, yes.

They may have it lying around, but not necessarily in a readily manageable format for putting into the EPG; services like the MS EPG are provided by third party aggregators who ensure that things are consistent across different broadcasters and they don't come cheap.

Freeview Playback is a set of Specifications. The Humax will shortly releasing software that will make it Group 2 compatible.

The main features of group 2 are series link (set to record 1 episode and it will ask you if you want to record the entire series) and Accurate Record (programs will be recorded even if the program starts late).

thanks - except by what I hear on this forum they don't work well as the TV companies don't start things / send correct messages on time so as SL and AR don't work with auto-padding its a bit hopeless... - is that fair to say?

Not really; it certainly isn't perfect but very much better than hopeless. If you look at the poll on hummy.org.uk of people who have actually tried active recording/series link then the number opting to stay with ar/sl outnumbers those reverting to padding by about 9 to 1.

I used to have a link to a OTA information web site, that kept you informed of when and what TV channel they would use to broadcast any update, due to me not backing up my list of favourites on my compy when I had to carry out a complete recovery of my hard drive I lost the web page,I hope some one can give any help to me on trying to find this site or one that did the same thing.........Thanks in Advance

I suppose it depends which channels you would regularly want to record programmes from. About the only things I'm interested in recording are on Virgin 1 which only just about manages to keep the EPG populated let alone have any AR or SL info.

For me, personally, I'd say that AR is less than hopeless.

What makes it hopeless as a robust solution, imho, is the fact that you can't select whether to have AP or AR on a per-programme or, at the very least, a per-channel basis.

John.

Has anybody done a list of the channels that are good for A/R and those that are not?

Out of interest, does an updated firmware have to be with the broadcasters well in advance of a transmit date or is what is sent out changeable by the manufacturers even during broadcast?
I'm thinking that if it is the former, the firmware will possibly have already been 'wrapped' by Humax and downloadable prior to the OTA date. (and hence possibly the very same version that is downloadable from hummy.org )

Just a thought

The DTG usually need 5 working days (I think it's five; could be more, but that's my recollection) for testing and verification before the OTA.

When it comes, it will definitely be different to the version on hummy.org.uk.

Do you know what is the difference between the AR (Accurate Recording) of V20 and the AT (Auto Tracking) that came with V15?

?
On 1.00.15 there was a bug (corrected in 1.00.20) where all AR recordings started at the time specified in the EPG, ie. neither early nor late starts were picked up, although early and late endings correctly stopped recordings (on those channels supporting FP).

Not sure if you are able to say Barry, but have you actually seen the 1.0.21 (or what ever is called) firmware yet that will be sent over the air?

I have read it is meant to be the 1.0.20 firmware (available on Hummy, org) with some fixes.

Does the actual new firmware exist yet?

You will not get an answer to that question from Barry or anybody else; sorry.
