Faulty Panasonic EX75
DavidSteward
24-11-2007
I have a Panasonic EX75 which has had very light use over the past 13 months, I prefer the Topfield 5800. Now it is faulty.

It won't power up, I can feel the vibration of what I assume is the hard disk running and the optical out put lights up at the back. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it worth repairing?

Probably the power supply. If it is, it could be a cheap fix.

After being with my local Panasonic dealer for two weeks they are unable to diagnose or repair the fault.

Astonishing.

So what do they propose to do?

After six weeks I finally have an estimate for the repair, nearly £200. Panasonic have indicated that they would look favourably at an out of warranty repair - will that run to a £200 repair. Amazon sell the replacement EX77 for about the same price as the repair.

Have Panasonic given any indication of how 'favourably' they will look upon it?

I have just mailed Panasonic regarding a possible 'Voltage Regulator' issue.
I posted here about powering off or failing during finalisation and found that many, many users of various Pannys were suffering.
I provided links to this and AV forums detailing user complaints and demanded a fix free of charge.

I'll keep in touch,

Evening

Under the Sale of Goods Act (as variously amended), the product should last for a reasonable time.

It should not be unreasonable for a DVD recorder such as an EX75 to last longer than 13months. Your claim is against the supplier (NOT the manufacturer). Do NOT let them fob you off - demonstrate that you know the law, and that you will enforce your rights if necessary.

See the link for further details:

Hope this helps.

My faulty EX75 has now been repaired after being away for 3 months. The RAM drive has been replaced at a cost of £183 + a £20 handling fee by the Service Centre as it had to be returned to Panasonic for repair.

The good news is that I only had to pay the £20 handling charge as Panasonic accepted that after 13 months use the drive should not have failed.

It's a long time to wait... but a good result in the end!

Good luck with your machine in future.
