Series Timer Problem

I have a problem with the series timer function with the above equipment.
After setting the series timer for a program it will not allow me to cancel (erase) the setting, it just keeps appearing on the EPG listing week after week.
Also the series does not record even though it is set, and the event is not listed on the timer list in the System Menu.
I can record the programme successfully by setting the timer manually although this then appears as an overlap with the series event in the EPG menu.
I have tried doing a soft reset by holding down the start button for ten seconds, as recommended in the operating instructions, but this does not cure the problem. I have not tried formatting the hard disk.
The machine also exhibited the self power down/restart problem mentioned elsewhere but seems to have cured itself of this now.
