Best of British, depends on your definition of best.
So here we are, best of British week.
But how many of the songs chosen will actually be, best of British. From a country that brought you The Beatles, The Stones and The Who I expect it more likely that we'll see Steps, Atomic Kitten and Robbie Williams. I would expect they will have to do one ballad and one up tempo track. Hope will do a Spice Girls track, Either Stop or 2 become 1. They will probably do an Atomic Kitten Track but may do Sound of the Underground by Girls Aloud. Of all the acts this week I think they have the most choice of songs to do, however they may need a minor miracle to stay in. Leon will do Living doll by Cliff Richard, only one note needed there so it should suit him down to the ground. Then I expect him to cripple Angels. However would he lower himself to do the Proclaimers or Bay city rollers to cash in on the scottish vote? Possibly Maggie May but that would be a train wreck. Even so He'll stay in for some unknown reason. Nikki may struggle to find big Diva ballads this week, may tackle a Shirley Bassey song but I dont think she has the voice for it. Shout by Lulu maybe? Same Difference will almost certainly do a Steps track, high energy dance routine other than that, they've already done Sclub so again a 2nd song is a mystery. With a little help from my friends maybe? Rhydian will hopefully do a Queen track, a lot of people on here have said Bohemian Rhapsody but I think A kind of magic or I want to break free could be amazing. I also have a feeling he will do a Tom Jones song, being a lad from the valleys himself. |

If Rhydian he sings a Queen song, he may just sing a 'quieter' Tom Jones song by way of contrasting performances. Don't know why, but my bet would be Green Green Grass Of Home. It would be special, methinks (what's new?)
Sorry, but I have no thoughts on the others because if it wasn't for catching Rhydian singing POTO quite by chance I wouldn't be watching the show. Fact. |

With Duran Duran as guests, the theme could be:

nonsensical lyrics
bands with lead singers who can't actually sing
foghorn impersonators
overweight supposed heartthrobs
great session musicians
but certainly not 'Best of British' |

All of the themes for this series have been intentionally broad and open to interpretation after it was felt that in previous series' contestants had been too restricted in the possibilities for song choices every week. I expect we'll see a few classic British songs and artists being covered, but you've got to remember the target audience for the show. I doubt 'Pinball Wizard', 'This Charming Man' or 'A Day In The Life' would go down any better than 'Angels', '2 Become 1' or 'Whole Again' considering there'll be a significant proportion of the voters who won't instantly recognise the songs.
Mind you, Leon's choice last week was bizarre and we may see a few surprises. Let's not forget we've had Radiohead-Creep on the X-Factor so I wouldn't totally discount something off the wall, maybe The Verve-The Drugs Don't Work or Arctic Monkeys-I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor. I'd love it if, in honour of all this year's sob stories someone was chosen to sing Garbage-I'm Only Happy When It Rains. |

![]() ![]() I forgot they did Tragedy, they've already done Sclub so I wonder where they'll go? I actually want them to do a ballad now, I've changed my mind from what I thought last week, The vocal on Starship was very good and Sarah is really improving. In week one I though Sean had the better voice but She has caught up. And she is stunningly gorgeous too. |

Are you an SD fan? I love them, but sadly I love Rhydian more
![]() They exceded my expectations and if Rhydian wasn't in this years contest I would want them to win. I think they have a future on a childrens show ala SCLUB and releasing records of that genre. The type of stuff you play at parties when people have had a few. And how about a Muse song, Starlight is fantastic but I don't think it would suit Rhydians voice |

I;d rather it be Rhyd and SD in the final alone with no third party and let them actually sing together for one fun song.

Something tells me that it won't really be the 'best'.
Maybe they should have themed it as 'The most commercial of British'. |
